Summary

Do you want to be responsible for technical teams building Power Platform and Dynamics 365 solutions to support the mission critical work of the Home Office? Do you want the support of other disciplines to help you deliver this work?

We have ambitious targets to reduce reliance on manual business processes and transition to digital delivery of many of our services. As a Lead Engineer, leading small agile teams you will be key to the Home Office delivering on this vision. We have Business Analysts who will support you in defining the existing, and to be processes. We have Test Engineers to ensure we are catching defects early, and we have User Researchers and Ethics advisors to ensure we are considering people in all that we do.

Your team will be responsible for delivering case management solutions supported by workflow automations. You’ll form part of the centralised Shared Application Services engineering capability within Home Office and as such will have opportunities to build solutions used across the entire department.

You must focus on keeping the skills of the engineers sharp and ensure that they are cross skilled and T-Shaped. You must also be willing to jump onto the tools and help out to support your colleagues and address sophisticated issues. You will set the goals and standards for your teams and you will also lead from the front.

As well as leading and supporting our developers in building solutions we want you to support the continuous professional development (CPD) of our developers. We really care about CPD, and we want you to support our developers in keeping sharp with the latest skills. We will give you the training, resources, and time to keep yourself up to date.

You will keep up to speed with the wider engineering community, chipping in to raising the profile of automation engineering and ensuring our teams are contributing to and making use of best practice.

Responsibilities

As a Lead Engineer you’ll take ownership over the products, features and services your team looks after, being curious at heart with a desire to make things better.

You’ll prioritise the focus on being one team with a passion for nurturing, coaching and sharing your knowledge with others whilst ensuring high quality code is delivered in line with project goals and delivery cycles and thrive using agile methods.

  • leading the day to day activities of engineers in your team, ensuring everyone is working effectively and efficiently; reporting any impediments
  • coaching your team as well as Supporting Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and encouraging formal professional qualifications.
  • supporting capability build in your team and in the organisation
  • taking a hands-on role with engineering delivery when necessary, blending your leadership and technical tasks to achieve team objectives
  • ensuring appropriate methods are being used, as well as leading efforts to identify improved tools/technologies

Essential Criteria

You’ll be a Lead Engineer who is passionate about Power Platform/Dynamics and software development and want to be involved throughout the product lifecycle, from idea generation, design, and prototyping to execution, and shipping whilst having experience with:

  • Designing and building Power Platform or Dynamics 365 Solutions
  • Ensuring goals for your team are well understood by your team and you communicate to them effectively.
  • Managing people and a focus on their growth.
  • Working with senior stakeholders to unblock issues and ensure delivery stays on track.
  • Ensure that work delivered by teams is of high quality and that teams have a focus on continuous improvement.

Desirable Skills

Whilst this is not a deal breaker, given the focus of this team it would be a bonus if you also have a any of the following skills or experience:

  • SharePoint – Lists, Libraries, Customisation
  • Azure Serverless Development
  • C#, JavaScript
  • API Development

Technical skills

We’ll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

  • Systems Development Management (DLMG) - Level 5
  • Software Design (SWDN) - Level 5
  • Programming/software development (PROG) - Level 4
  • Performance Management (PEMT) - Level 4
  • Professional Development (PDSV) - Level 5

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Experience and Technical skills.
