Summary
We are responsible for handling the UK border control by implementing immigration and customs regulations and working with the wider Home Office on counter terrorism, organised crime, modern slavery and trafficking. Border Force has five operational regions in the UK: North, Central, Heathrow, South and South East & Europe. These regions have responsibility for securing the border 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at the UK’s 140 seaports, airports, 200+ general aviation ports, postal depots and international rail network. This includes the Eurostar from Brussels and Paris to St Pancras International and the Eurotunnel from Coquelles to Cheriton, where Border Force has juxtaposed controls.

Job description
You will be required to implement, assess and feedback on emergency procedures and drills, promoting best practice in emergency response. You will also participate in "unannounced/Port State" type visits, as well as welfare, and International Safety Management (ISM) assurance visits. The post involves frequent travel, and as such is predominantly home based with occasional visits to Portsmouth for briefings/meetings etc. There may be a possibility of international travel. The successful applicant will be required to maintain a "touch down" desk within daily travel of home for IT Support purposes.
This is a full time position, however, applicants who wish to work alternative working patterns are welcome to apply. The preferred working pattern may or may not be available, agreement will be subject to business need, and any request to work an alternative working pattern should be made prior to your acceptance of the provisional offer.

Responsibilities
As a Health and Safety Superintendent you will undertake the role of Deputy Designated Person Ashore — responding to reports from the fleet, identifying risks to personnel and business, making informed decisions and offering advice. Duties will include:- Act as Lead Auditor for International Safety Management (ISM) purposes;
- Sea Training — Design, Implement and evaluate "Sea Training" serials (emergency drills);
- Maintain continual professional development (CPD) membership of a recognised professional Institute - Nautical Institute, RINA, IMarEST or IOSH;
- Provide expert knowledge/assurance to General Maritime, Commercial Vessel Rummage teams;
- Undertake visits/audits to all parts of the business (including General Maritime teams) and report
- Manage safety drills during sea training visits:
- Undertake Accident and Investigation, prepare witness statement act as "expert witness’ ,
- Manage Safety Management System/updates/Corrective Action Requests.
Essential Criteria
- Experience in delivering training, offering constructive feedback and producing performance improvement plans;
- Are flexible, adaptive and creative in solving problems and positive when dealing with change;
- Must be able to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality have a strong sense of personal ethics and honesty;
- Can effectively organise and plan;
- Able to deal with conflict confidentially, can demonstrate sound interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills and thrive working as part of a team;
- Must be able to obtain an unrestricted ENGI medical certificate.
Desirable Criteria
- International Safety Management Code Lead Auditor.
- Designated Person Ashore.
- Practical senior level experience in ship management operations.
