This is a great opportunity for a part-qualified Actuary or Actuarial Analyst to change their career focus and develop a long-lasting career in software development. This role also provides opportunities to become a subject matter expert on our financial models, owning modelling approaches and contributing to team learning and development.

We are looking for a part-qualified Actuary or Actuarial Analyst to help design, build, deliver and support financial models serving the Pensions market. You will:

  • Build your skills in software development with a focus on Actuarial models and supporting systems.
  • Work on a variety of software including roll forward models, asset liability models and products we license to clients.
  • Apply the business knowledge, skills and experience you have gained whilst working in an Actuarial-focused role.
  • Help the development team understand the requirements of complex financial calculations.
  • Build an understanding of system design and risk issues relevant to existing financial models.
  • Become a Subject Matter Expert on our modelling systems.
  • Work within a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team alongside actuarial modelling experts, highly experienced software developers, quality engineers & other specialists. We work within a DevOps culture that promotes team autonomy and engineering excellence, using the latest technologies.

About You

To succeed in, and enjoy this role, you are likely to have:

  • Experience with actuarial calculations, in particular working on Defined Benefit pension schemes
  • Experience working as an Actuarial Analyst or Trainee Actuary (part-qualified).
  • A desire to develop your career as a software developer, furthering your skills in modern full-stack software development.

You may also have:

  • Some experience of modern software development
  • Some awareness of the Microsoft development stack and Azure Cloud computing technologies, including some of the following:
    • ASP.NET & ASP.NET Core
    • Service-oriented architectures
    • Microservices
    • Git & Azure DevOps
    • RESTful APIs
  • Some familiarity with, or awareness of, continuous improvement and continuous delivery practices, DevOps culture and automation within the Azure Dev Ops platform (yaml pipelines)

You will be:

  • Able to forge strong and professional relationships at all levels.
  • Able to collaborate successfully with client and 3rd party technical teams.
  • Able to effectively articulate actuarial concepts with team members/stakeholders from a non-actuarial background.
