Due to the growth of the Toxicology Department, there is a new and exciting opening for a Toxicology Laboratory Team Leaderwho will be responsible for supporting the Laboratory Manager in organising and supervising the day-to-day laboratory operations of the Toxicology Services whilst ensuring a high standard of quality, efficient processing of samples and accuracy of results.


Duties will include:

  • Manage a team of Analysts including recruitment, training and development as well as performance and absence.
  • Ensure that high quality standards are maintained in the laboratory processes and accreditations are maintained.
  • Supervise team working and help to coordinate the activities of laboratory staff alongside other Team Leaders and Senior Analysts to ensure that samples are processed efficiently and effectively within contracted specifications.
  • Facilitate trouble shooting in the laboratory in order to maintain the smooth and rapid flow of samples.
  • Ensure that there is sufficient cover for laboratory duties.
  • Ensure that the implementation of new developments and processes in the laboratory are communicated effectively within the analytical team.
  • Ensure all records related to equipment and processes are kept up to date.
  • Identify, communicate and track IT issues.
  • Identify and resolve supply/material integrity issues.
  • Ensure that equipment is operated and maintained to a high standard.
  • Assist with managing non-conformities related to laboratory processes
  • Be responsible for ensuring that stock/raw materials are maintained


Requirement for working between 08.30-17.00, with some flexibility and weekend working as dictated by the workload. Office and laboratory based.


The successful candidate will ideally have a BSc or MSc (or equivalent) qualification in scientific subject, preferably Chemistry or Pharmaceutical based. Good knowledge of Toxicology Methods and equipment is essential. Some experience of managing/leading people and projects is preferred.


The suitable individual will ideally have experience in a high throughput laboratory environment with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You will have the ability to work well under pressure to strict deadlines with a high level of accuracy and flexibility.
