Summary

The Home Office is here to make the UK safer. Border Force is a Law Enforcement arm of the Home Office with primary responsibility for UK Border Security, including counter terrorism, immigration and customs matters.

We are responsible for handling the UK border control by implementing immigration and customs regulations and working with the wider Home Office on counter terrorism, organised crime, modern slavery and trafficking. Border Force has five operational regions in the UK: North, Central, Heathrow, South and South East & Europe. These regions have responsibility for securing the border 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at the UK’s 140 seaports, airports, 200+ general aviation ports, postal depots and international rail network. This includes the Eurostar from Brussels and Paris to St Pancras International and the Eurotunnel from Coquelles to Cheriton, where Border Force has juxtaposed controls.

Job description

Border Force is a Law Enforcement arm of the Home Office with primary responsibility for UK Border Security, including counter terrorism, immigration and customs matters. We are responsible for managing the UK border controls and collaborate with the wider Home Office to tackle organised crime, modern slavery and trafficking.

Heathrow Casework Hub & Heathrow Airline Liaison Unit is part of the Border Force Heathrow Region.

Heathrow Casework Hub (HCH) opened in June 2017 centralising Heathrow’s casework function. Its primary role is to progress cases transferred by ports where an initial bar to removal exists, and those which have met the HCH hand-off criteria. The team provides advice and expertise to Heathrow Terminals, liaises with internal & external legal reps and members of the public.

Heathrow Airline Liaison Team (HALU) opened in November 2017 centralising Heathrow’s Carriers’ Liability function. The team contributes towards reducing the level of inadequately documented arrivals to Ports by administering Section 40 charges imposed against carriers across Heathrow. The team provides accurate Carriers’ Liability (CL) advice and expertise to colleagues at the Heathrow Terminals, check-in staff at overseas airports, and members of the public.

Successful candidates will be placed on a Monday to Friday contract, hours of work vary between 7am – 8pm. This offers flexibility as you will work a variety of Early / Mid and Late shifts on weekdays as necessary.

The role involves but is not limited to:
This role is suitable for someone who can organise and manage the daily workload and be effective with the use of IT systems as well as have an ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

The post holder will be based at Terminal 3 but will be expected to travel within the Heathrow estate.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Linking incoming correspondence and flagging urgent issues to Border Force Officer (BFO) or Border Force Higher Officer (BFHO) as well as handling cases to arrange / extend bail or detention.
  • Assisting the BFO/BFHO in pursuing further enquiries as tasked.
  • Monitoring the HCH & HALU inboxes and completing case actions as directed by the BFO/HO
  • Requesting & dispatching files
  • Arranging detention / release from detention
  • Setting up movement orders for detained cases
  • Arranging removal and Other Port Returns (OPR) for bail and detained cases, and public expense removals when required
  • Assisting the BFO/BFHO in pursuing further enquiries as tasked
  • Monitoring the HCH and HALU inboxes
  • Completing monthly returns and preparing files for transfer to Carrier Liability Service (CLS)
  • Carrying out quality assurance on port files

The jobholder will be required to carry out other duties and functions commensurate with the grade, as required.

  • Able to digest information and be confident using a range of systems in order to make informed decisions.
