Head of Design and Engineering
Halifax or UK home-based with regular travel

Following Marshalls’ acquisition of CPM Group in 2017, we recently announced the merger of the Marshalls Linear Drainage and CPM teams to form Marshalls Civils and Drainage, bringing together over 100 years of experience in infrastructure, precast concrete, water management, and retaining wall solutions. Part of the Marshalls Group, a Superbrand for the 12th year running and a successful FTSE 250, the brand is synonymous with quality; supplying numerous major civils, infrastructure, highways and landscaping projects across the UK - did you know we’re the only company to have paved every square on the Monopoly board?!

As market leaders and innovators in our sector, we’re invested in both our evolution and our people and, as a result, we have a new opportunity for a Head of Design and Engineering to lead our growing Technical function and join the Civils and Drainage leadership team in delivering our strategy.

So what’s the mission?
You will work with the Managing Director and the leadership team across, Sales, Marketing, and Operations to develop, lead, and implement a customer-focused technical, design and engineering strategy that will support our future growth plans whilst managing a cross-functional team between Halifax and Wombourne.

You’ll need to be a people person with excellent communication and influencing skills to engage with internal departments, clients and contractors whilst also representing the business through external trade and legislative bodies.

This is a great opportunity for a leader with extensive technical or civil engineering experience to play an active part in developing the function and supporting the business in achieving goals!

Although this is a home-based position, regular travel will be required for you to attend office/site visits across the UK.

What are the mission-critical skills?

  • Minimum 3+ years Technical or civil engineering experience
  • A relevant engineering qualification to degree or chartered level
  • Experience using design software packages such as AUTOCAD, Revit, or 3D Civils
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to solve problems and have a professional, ‘can do’ attitude
  • Experience of people and change management
  • Ability to work at a leadership level to develop and implement strategic plans
  • Previous experience within the drainage, water management, or SuDS sectors is desirable but not essential!

In return, we offer a competitive salary, car or car allowance, 26 days holiday + bank holidays, 5% company matched pension scheme, employee discounts on Marshalls products and retail offers amongst other great benefits!
