About the role and our team

Join our friendly team as an Education Support Officer within the Special Educational Needs Unit at Ballakermeen High School!

Within your role, you’ll support pupils in specialist provisions who have significant learning difficulties and often require a high degree of personal care. As well as, this you will address the needs of pupils, particularly those who need help to overcome barriers to learning.

You’ll be part of our busy, dynamic and happy unit where we work hard to promote independence along with a positive attitude for our students.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising pupils excluded from, or otherwise not working to, a normal timetable
  • Providing advice to assist in pupils social, health & hygiene development
  • Develop 1:1 mentoring arrangements with pupils
  • Challenge and motivate pupils, promote and reinforce self-esteem
  • Supporting pupils’ access to learning using appropriate strategies and resources
  • Work with other staff in planning, evaluating and adjusting learning activities
