An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the dynamic and friendly respiratory and sleep physiology team at the City campus lung function and sleep services department. If you are interested in providing clinical diagnostic services and are looking to play an active role within the departmental team providing lung function and sleep services for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust then this is the post for you.

Applicants should hold BSc in Clinical Physiology (respiratory), Clinical Measurement Science or Healthcare Science (respiratory) and should have experience and underpinning knowledge of lung function and investigations of sleep disordered breathing. You should be working towards or already hold relevant professional qualifications (ARTP practitioner / Part1/Part2 and should be registered or working towards registration with RCCP or AHCS.

You will be expected to already have experience in the performance of pulmonary function tests (as detailed in the job description), and will be required to plan, undertake and perform a range of basic respiratory diagnostic assessments and treatment interventions within the department, wards and outpatient clinic areas, and perform more complex clinical investigations under supervision. You must be able to analyse and interpret basic results and formulate a factual report. You will also be able to develop your skills in sleep diagnostics and CPAP delivery. In addition you will assist in national clinical trials and research within the trust.

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trusts is one of the biggest acute Trusts in the UK. It has one of the largest respiratory departments with 28 consultants and a nationally renowned academic department. The respiratory service provides a combination of secondary and tertiary respiratory care to the people of Nottinghamshire and the wider East Midlands. Tertiary services include Asthma, COPD, IPF, lung cancer, cystic lung disease/LAM and NIV.

Lung Function services are based at 3 locations; the City campus, Queen’s Medical Centre and the Treatment Centre.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To plan, undertake and perform a range of basic respiratory diagnostic assessments and treatment interventions within the department, wards and outpatient clinic areas, and perform more complex clinical investigations under supervision. To analyse and interpret basic results and formulate a factual report. Maintenance of clinical records in relation to activities carried out. Performs calibration and quality control procedures on all laboratory equipment used. Supervision and training of less experienced staff in own area. To participate in department research projects and comparison of new equipment when relevant. See attached job description for the full range of duties.

Essential criteria
  • BSc Healthcare Science (Respiratory) or BSc Clinical Physiology (Respiratory) or Respiratory Therapy Advanced Diploma
Desirable criteria
  • ARTP Practitioner qualification

  • Excellent written communication skills

  • Evidence of previous experience of dealing and communicating with general public.

  • Evidence of using planning and organisation skills in daily work.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Practical experience as a trainee or qualified clinical physiologist gaining competency in the range of diagnostic tests specified in the job description.

    • Documented evidence of competency to perform investigations as detailed in job description.

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
