We are seeking to appoint a full-time Laryngologist/ENT Consultant for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The post is offered initially as a 10 PA contract with a 1 in 8 (1 in 9 weekend) ENT on call commitment at NUH. Further PAs could be negotiated and for suitably qualified candidates, an approach will be made to the University of Nottingham for the conferment of an honorary academic title.

Main duties of the job

The post is available to start with immediate effect. Applicants should be on the Specialist Register and have completed or be undertaking a laryngology fellowship. Subject to negotiation it is likely that a suitable candidate currently undertaking a Fellowship would be encouraged to complete their advanced training before taking up the position.

As a teaching Trust NUH has a strong relationship with the University of Nottingham. In partnership with the University of Nottingham, NUH operates two NIHR Biomedical Research Units - in Hearing & Deafness and Digestive Diseases. Academic interests will be strongly encouraged and supported.

Working for our organisation

Our ENT department at NUH provides a comprehensive range of ORL-HNS services and is organised on a sub-specialty basis. The department is situated in a purpose built PFI building and is shared with Ophthalmology. Our outpatient consulting rooms has been equipped with new state-of-the-art videoendoscopic equipment. There is a 34 bedded inpatient/day case ward for adults, shared with Maxillofacial Surgery and Ophthalmology and a 22 bedded paediatric surgical specialty ward. There are 3 ENT operating theatres with a wide range of equipment including CO2 and KTP lasers, and Image Guidance systems.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will join a well-established enthusiastic, friendly multidisciplinary and multi-professional team. The role will include service provision for patients with non-malignant voice, airway and swallowing conditions, in multidisciplinary settings where appropriate. The aim of the post is to: 1) provide support for the diagnostic part of the 2 week wait cancer pathway; 2) provide a highly specialized cutting edge service for patients with complex upper aerodigestive tract conditions; and 3) lead and further develop a state of the art ‘office-based’ assessment and treatment service to include, for example, TNO, injection medialisations and laryngopharyngeal biopsies. The post holder will work closely with colleagues from all related disciplines such as Head & Neck Oncology, Speech & Language Therapy and other specialties such as Gastroenterology, Respiratory and Neurology. The job plan will also include a theatre list and an ‘office-based’ upper aerodigestive tract surgical list on alternating weeks. Development of a research and academic program will be encouraged. I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month’s pay).
