An opportunity has arisen for a professional and highly organised person with an interest in working in neurosurgery and neurology clinical research to join the Research and Innovation (R&I) Department on an 8 month Fixed Term/Secondment. The post holder will provide clinical and administrative support to the neurosurgery and neurology clinical research teams and would be suitable for a Psychology graduate looking to gain relevant clinical and research experience in relation to applying for a Clinical Psychology Doctorate. The postholder will need to demonstrate research skills at a graduate and/or postgraduate level. For those willing to work flexibly there will also be some opportunity to shadow the clinics of our neurology and neuropsychology colleagues.

The post holder will be a motivated team player and will develop a good understanding of clinical trials and the legislation applicable to running clinical trials. He/she will be required to exercise independent judgement and initiative, work autonomously where necessary, meet trial deadlines and be able to prioritise own work load. He/she will be working with a broad professional group, including Clinicians, Research Nurses/Practitioners, Trial Coordinators and Investigators both locally and externally and will be expected to represent the department and the Trust in a professional manner at all times. All work will be carried out in accordance with The International Council for Harmonisation of Technical Requirements for Pharmaceuticals for Human Use-Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP), Research Governance and trust Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Policies.

We are looking for someone who is highly motivated and passionate about clinical research. You will be working with a variety of clinical doctors, nurses and allied health professionals in a friendly and supportive environment to support the delivery of NIHR portfolio adopted studies. The successful candidate will need to be able to work independently as well as being an excellent team player. There is a requirement to have a flexible attitude to work, have excellent written and verbal communication skill, have excellent organisational skills with the ability to monitor and plan in advance own workload and prioritise according to the needs of the service. Main duties and responsibilities include data collection and entry, collection and processing of research samples, assisting in the informed consent process, undertaking basic observations and trial assessments.

All new staff appointed to posts at the Trust will be subject to a 6 months probationary period. This will give new staff members an opportunity to become familiar with the culture and working environment of the Trust.
