Job Introduction

Children’s InHouse Productions is the award-winning production arm of the UK’s foremost kids’ broadcaster, BBC Children’s. The acclaimed In House unit, with production bases in Salford and Glasgow, produces content across all genres for 0 to 12.

Britain’s Best Young Artist is a returning art series for CBBC. This talent contest format will bring together 27 of the best young artists, from across the UK, to compete in a range of fun location and studio-based, artistic challenges. The young contestants will be skilled in all types of art: from Modern Art to Still Life to Street Art.

We’re looking for two experienced self-shooting Assistant Producers to support and provide 2nd camera on a variety of location shoots for the second series of ’Britain’s Best Young Artist’. The AP will also be a contact for their child contributors and will also film in the studio sections of the show too.

Main Responsibilities

As a Filming AP, you will be responsible for helping to set up an eclectic mix of location-based, activities for each trio of young artists and act as 2nd camera on the shoots.

These fun experiences are devised to inspire new approaches to art and act as creative catalysts as the children’s final artwork.

These experiences could be anything from a high-adrenalin rib ride, sketching in the back of an off road vehicle or a surreal concert in an anechoic chamber - none of which you’d usually see in a traditional art competition format.

The children might be excited/nervous/overwhelmed at times, so you will need to be used to working with young contributors and be skilled at helping them feel at ease, so they can produce their best artwork and get the most out of taking part in BBYA.

You will also be a "familiar face" for the children throughout the contest.

Are you the right candidate?
  • Experience of creating ideas for fun, factual entertainment content.
  • Experience of dealing with contributors and high-profile talent.
  • Understanding of the challenges of working with child contributors.
  • Demonstrable strong self-shooting skills and knowledge of what shots are needed in a film sequence.
  • Experience of script writing desirable.
  • Knowledge and/or passion for the world of art.
