Job Introduction

Internal Communications (IC) sits at the centre of BBC Studios. It brings together our people celebrating our diverse cultures and connecting our teams to the BBC’s mission and values. The BBC Studios IC team provides strategic advice and creative and practical solutions. We build meaningful relationships with key stakeholders, managing effective communication channels. Catering for more than 3,000 people, a team of five dedicated practitioners partner with a network of specialist communicators around the world.

We are looking for a Head of Internal Communications, to lead this fantastic team. This exciting role will provide trusted internal communications and engagement advice to leaders and teams across BBC Studios, including Senior Leaders, BBC Studios Executive Team, our CEO as well as working with the wider BBC Group.

Working in a creative, fast-changing, ambitious BBC subsidiary, you’ll play a vital role in helping connect our workforce to each other across BBC Studios, helping to build a diverse and inclusive culture - engaging colleagues in new and innovative ways, aligned to some of our key strategic pillars, including Putting People First and ongoing business evolution including strategy delivery, structural change, technological change and living with Covid

You’ll report to BBC Studios Director of Communications and be responsible for making sure our communications are the best not just in the BBC Studios, but in the industry. You’ll also create and deliver engagement strategies, key announcements, events and lead on major change programmes. An exciting, creative role.

You’ll also be a senior member of the wider BBC IC community, working closely the BBC Director of IC - helping bring to life BBC strategy for BBC Studios, and communicating BBC Studios’ successes and developments to the wider BBC.

Main Responsibilities

Lead on the scoping, facilitation and planning for BBC Studios’ Internal Communications strategy, partnering with senior business leaders to get buy in for the determined approach and deliverables. Deliver and oversee business-partnering across all areas of BBC Studios.

Lead the planning and delivery of major announcements, launches, events and channels.

Drive delivery of internal communications campaigns that are creative, effective, measurable, timely and tailored, working to maximise effectiveness and audience reach.

Oversee and deliver all materials, assets, tools and events to a high standard, ensuring the tone and messaging aligns with the overall IC strategy.

Research, propose and deliver channel and campaign innovations, particularly across the tech space (apps, platforms, new digital ideas) aligned to the broader internal communication strategy and analysis of audience need

Deliver and manage appropriate compliance and approval of all strategic plans and campaign materials across relevant key stakeholder groups; comply materials and messages for stakeholders in line with BBC Studios IC strategy and core BBC corporate messaging, working closely with colleagues across external communications, central functions and business units

Bring pan-BBC Group messaging and IC to life for BBC Studios employees and freelancers.

Manage and motivate a high performing team to support BBC Studios’ objectives while developing their own skills and careers.

Work closely with the Culture & Engagement team to help deliver BBC Studios’ ambitious internal culture programme across diversity & inclusion, wellbeing, career development, sustainability and leadership.

You are an accomplished Communications Leader, with extensive experience in managing IC and continuous change programme communications in Global organisations. You manage challenge with professionalism, with a key goal to encourage engagement to buy in to the changes afoot. You will be proud to lead a team to deliver and drive the Communications Strategy aligned to the business needs

With proven experience in the management of a specialism within a diverse organisation, you’ll be competent in proposing ideas and advising senior stakeholders on appropriate forms of communications, taking into account sensitivity of the topic and therefore the impact. Your effective stakeholder management style is demonstrable within your excellent track record in programme delivery.

You’ll possess a strong track record in Internal Communications, and be largely confident in delivering successful message through a various digital tools, platforms and social media and using data to refine and develop what you do. You will be proud to consistently deliver exemplary interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to present clear and concise professional communications to a range of audiences within the BBC. You will demonstrate confidence in contextualising complex issues, identify key points to be addressed and develop effective, practical and simple resolutions.

Naturally, you will be a curious character, keen to explore avenues of ambiguity and support the business to engage with the project and its value. You are organised and proficient in prioritisation, able to manage conflicting deadlines seamlessly. You thrive in an environment that combines creativity, commercial discipline and purpose. You approach challenges with a methodical focus and demonstrate resilience to ensure objectives are met.

We are ideally looking to hold 1st stage interviews w/c 2nd August, and 2nd stage interviews w/c 23rd August, but appreciate we are all in need of a holiday this year, and so we will be endeavour to be as flexible as possible.
