How You’ll Make a Difference

As a User Support Officer, you will work in the Information Technology and Digital Team which is responsible for managing, maintaining, and developing the Council business processes, information systems. The Support Officer team develops and delivers training on the effective use of ICT within the Council and advise on IT security, data governance and risk management.

You will make a difference by ensuring that all systems and business processes are working and are correct for purpose. The processes and systems are essential to the delivery of our services to the public, so this role is key and you will be instrumental in any decisions required for major change projects.

What will you be doing?
  • You will support front-line users of the business information system, both within the Council and within partner organisations, including schools.
  • Daily you will work with staff to identify and address any data quality issues.
  • You will support our ‘helpdesk’ by responding to queries raised by customers via our call logging application, email and phone. You will support users in solving business process/ system-related problems they encounter.
  • You will carry out testing in new business processes, system developments, and work with colleagues to make any necessary improvements before the wider ‘roll-out’ to users
  • You will assist with the planning, design and delivery of training activities.
  • You will collate and process data accurately to support the Council’s decision-making processes and to complete returns to Government departments
  • It will be your responsibility to administer the department’s change control process.

What We Need From You
  • You will hold a minimum of 3 grade C’s at GCSE (or equivalent) including English and Maths; or hold a relevant qualification, equivalent to at least NVQ Level 2 (e.g. in Using Information Technology or Administration/Customer Services) or hold significant recent and relevant experience in a similar role such as using information/ electronic management systems and computers in the workplace to include the use of complex multi-user databases, word-processing, spreadsheets, email and the internet.
  • You will be able to demonstrate experience and aptitude for training and supporting others, formally or informally, in the use of Information systems and/or business processes.
  • You must demonstrate skills and experience in the analysis of data such as performance and data validation reports and demonstrate the initiative and skills to investigate the background reasons for poor performance and data and propose practical solutions to address them.
  • You must be able to communicate effectively with staff with limited or no systems knowledge. You must also have effective presentation and documentation skills, gained in a training, customer service or other support environment, including the ability to undertake presentations.
  • You must demonstrate the ability to prioritise your workload and effort to meet planned and unplanned changes in demand, including the resilience and flexibility to ensure key deadlines are met in the face of such pressures.
