How You’ll Make a Difference

As a Solution Architect you will be part of a focused and innovative team working on exciting solutions and projects. You’ll play a key role in making a difference by selecting and designing digital solutions that will make a difference for council key workers and our customers and service users across South Gloucestershire.

What you will be doing?
  • In the role you will work on a mixture of digital product delivery and infrastructure projects as well as aspects of our standard architectural processes, in support of our Principal Solutions Architect.
  • You will support the investigation and assessment of proposed new technology solutions through options appraisals and procurement work.
  • You will be part of planning and monitoring of the council’s architectural roadmap.
  • Your days will be made up of time working on projects on your own and meetings with suppliers, engineers and the development team
  • You will work with IT Engineers from a variety of technical disciplines as part of Project teams, and provide solution design input to our Agile Development teams at key points.

Examples of the type of projects you work on could include:
  • providing new digital tools to support our Social Care teams;
  • extending the services available via our public website portal;
  • delivering new mobile asset management solutions to our Streetcare teams.

The team is currently working remotely, but there is the technology in place to collaborate continuously working closely with team members.

What We Need From You
  • You will have a degree or relevant qualifications, or demonstrable industry experience and expertise from a business analysis or architectural background in a technology-driven context.
  • It is essential that you have experience applying strategy, using patterns, referencing standards, and adhering to policies. You should being able to confidently challenge these and provide guidance to others that need to use them in their own work.
  • We require you to have experience understanding business problems and producing viable and appropriate technical design in response (at logical, process and data flow levels).
  • You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills including report writing and explanation of technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • You will have experience working as part of a multidisciplinary agile development team using tools such as Azure DevOps or Jira.
