How You’ll Make a Difference

As a SEND Caseworker you will make a difference by ensuring children with Education, Health and Care Plans have the provision they need to achieve their learning potential. Working with children, their parents or carers, schools, and other health and care professionals, you will deliver quality person-centred case management and in return be proud to help families who may need support.

This is a Limited Term Contract / secondment opportunity until the 31st August 2024

What will you be doing?
  • In this role you will be attending and chairing multi agency meetings and presenting cases to panel.
  • A key part of the role will be to write and amend Education, Health and Care Plans that will need to be high quality and legally compliant.
  • You will be required to produce reports on that data from your caseload to update your team and line manager.
  • On a daily basis you will be contacting parents, carers, and schools to discuss cases, some of which may be difficult conversations to have.
  • On occasions, you will help train and induct new team members.

What We Need From You
  • You will need to hold a relevant qualification e.g., minimum of NVQ 3, 2 A levels or equivalent qualification or have equivalent relevant experience such as working within a similar role for another local authority or working directly with children or young people with SEND.
  • It is essential that you have a comprehensive knowledge of legislation related to SEND.
  • You must be able to demonstrate that you have problem solving skills and the ability to reflect on your own practice and make changes as necessary.
  • You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • We require you to be confident with a positive attitude team player and able to build good working relationships.
  • You will be able to demonstrate good IT and organisational skills.

How a Career At South Gloucestershire Council Is Different
  • We know our team work best when they have balance in their lives and we offer genuine flexibility to help them achieve that work/life balance.
  • We value our staff as individuals, investing in their careers and we are recognised for the quality, breadth and depth of our training and development offer, which helps make the greatest long-term difference in work.
  • What’s special here is the strength of the team ethos. We are a relatively small local authority, so managers know staff well. They can plan their services to ensure teams have manageable caseloads and have effective supervision so feel supported to make decisions which are right for the children and young people they work with.
  • We are currently working remotely, but the usual place of work for the team is Badminton Road offices, Yate, as we provide a service to our customers from the council offices. It is expected that you will return to the usual place of work in line with governmental guidance and local council policy in the future.

Our teams at South Gloucestershire Council are making a real difference to the lives of people who live, work and learn here.
  • We’re building and shaping communities which people are proud of
  • We’re working with the most vulnerable in our community to help them achieve what they want in life
  • We’re investing in our schools to ensure every child and young person in South Gloucestershire achieves their full potential.

We’ve achieved a great deal, but we need talented and dedicated people to ensure we continue to make a difference.

We’re making a difference, be part of it!
