Trust Grade Dentist Post in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Restorative Dentistry and Orthodontics based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.This post is for dentists wishing to increase their experience in secondary care prior to application for specialist training. This post is predominately based in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. There is also the opportunity to gain experience in the Restorative Dentistry and the Orthodontic services within the department.The post holder is required to be continuously registered with the General Dental Council, registration status will be required.The Restorative Dentistry Service.This service is provided at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, in the Level 2 OPD.Assessment and treatment clinics are held at both the John Radcliffe Hospital and the Churchill Hospital, with the latter being exclusively in relation to the restorative dental management of Head and Neck Oncology patients. Restorative dentistry forms part of the cleft, craniofacial and oncology multidisciplinary teams in Oxford, and the team also provides care for developmental dental anomaly and complex dental trauma patients.Trust Grade Dentists may gain experience of assessing and treating a range of patients using contemporary restorative dental treatments, under the supervision of our consultants in Restorative Dentistry.The Orthodontic Service.You will have the opportunity to be involved in new patient orthodontic clinics and will be actively involved in the assessment and treatment planning of patients referred to the department. There are Dentoalveolar Clinics for joint treatment planning of surgical orthodontic patients. For those dentoalveolar/dental trauma patients that require splinting, support is given with temporary fixation and fixed appliances. You will also attend the Osteotomy Clinic, where pre- and post-surgery osteotomy patients are assessed, planned and managed.The Oral & Maxillofacial Service.The service is provided by “Hub and Spoke” arrangement with the centre being located at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust (John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital, Oxford and Horton Hospital, Banbury) and the spokes being Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (including Stoke Mandeville and Amersham), Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust (Reading) and Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Swindon).At present our main outpatient activity takes place at Level 2 Outpatients Department (OPD) in the John Radcliffe Hospital and our inpatient activity (wards and theatres) takes place in the West Wing of the John Radcliffe Hospital including emergency trauma, elective deformity and trauma surgery, salivary gland surgery and dentoalveolar surgery. There are day case sessions and clinics at the other peripheral sites. The maxillofacial laboratory is situated within the OPD. Oncology services (outpatient and inpatient) are based at the Blenheim Head and Neck Unit at the Churchill Hospital.The John Radcliffe is the Regional Trauma Centre and the Children’s Hospital hosts the Spires Cleft, Lip and Palate Centre and a supra-regional centre for Craniofacial Surgery.You will have the opportunity to attend outpatients to participate in new patient clinics and minor oral surgery sessions.
