Manufacturing Engineer - Tooling

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join the team as a Manufacturing Engineer - Tooling in Derby.

As a Manufacturing Engineer within our civil aerospace division, you will contribute to the progression of our Tooling Team by providing leadership throughout the entire design/make process by identifying tooling improvements, completing requirements capture, drafting tooling specifications and managing designs through to completion.

Working closely with the team, you will be responsible for the definition, design and delivery of all bespoke tooling in the assembly/disassembly of our civil aerospace engines. From one-off demonstrator engines to volume production and overhaul, we cover the entire lifecycle of the engines and support operations globally.

Key accountabilities:

  • Complete technical investigations and define detailed tooling concepts and specifications.
  • Manage multiple concurrent tool designs through a network of specialist tool design suppliers including the raising of orders, specification and management of deliverables and supporting ongoing technical discussions.
  • Act as a key stakeholder and participant during design for assembly/overhaul reviews of modified/novel engine Architecture.
  • Ensure MFMEA and CE compliant risk assessments are completed and robust in accordance with a zero defect and zero harm mentality.
  • Technically approve design solutions (including stress reports), ensuring they are compliant to all applicable processes and external legislation.
  • Maintain internal and customer facing systems to ensure that they have access to the data they require. Prepare and deliver Initial Provisioning Conferences for airlines and MRO bases using this data.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in a relevant position OR a degree in design, mechanical or manufacturing engineering (or equivalent).
  • Previous Nx CAD experience is essential.
  • An understanding of current engine architecture, gained either first hand in a build/overhaul facility or via exposure to sub-system design/manufacturing.
  • Demonstrable experience of solving complex problems to root cause.
  • Demonstrable experience of strong technical communication skills.
  • A strong grasp of fundamental mechanical engineering principles and manufacturing methods.
