An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Support Secretary/Typist to join the ENT Admin & Clerical Team.

You will be working with a large friendly team of typists and secretaries supporting the ENT consultants. You will be based at Queens Medical Centre Campus, which has excellent bus and tram links.

Main duties of the job

You will be an enthusiastic, conscientious team player with excellent typing skills. You will work well in a team, but also show initiative , self motivated and reliable. You will need to demonstrate a clear understanding of patient confidentiality.

You will be able to understand and accurately convey verbal and written information and be able to remain calm under pressure. The ability to manage your time and prioritise your workload whilst remaining patient focused is essential.

Audio typing of clinical correspondence, ensuring details are passed to relevant team members for actioning.

Answering the telephone and resolving requests from patients and staff.

Covering for Specialty PA during annual leave or sickness if required.

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria

    • Educated to GCSE standard with passes at grade C or above for English and Maths or similar through vocational training
    • Good command of the English language – both written and spoken.

Desirable criteria

  • RSA III or evidence of typing experience

Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria

    • Excellent telephone manner when speaking with colleagues, professionals and patients.
    • Must be able to clearly and accurately record information
    • Demonstrates enthusiasm and a conscientious approach to work.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working in a health care environment would be desirable, but not essential.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Proven typing experience
  • Experience of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
    • Must have an understanding of the Data Protection Act 1998 and be fully conversant with patient confidentiality

Desirable criteria

  • Audio typing. Knowledge of medical terminology is an advantage, but not essential as support and training will be given.

Planning and organisation skills

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrates an awareness of the importance of prompt timekeeping and good attendance at the workplace
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Consistently works to a high standard and deadlines

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
