About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Supplier Quality Engineer to join the business on a permanent basis at our Crewe site (with hybrid working). Reporting to the Supplier Quality Engineering Manager, the Senior Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for part maturation, issue management, root cause analysis, and ensuring Quality requirements are met on bought in parts.



The objective of the Supplier Quality department is to guarantee all key Quality targets are met on externally supplied parts. Ensuring systems achieve these standards in line with the PEP (product emergence process).



Key responsibilities include: :

  • Risk-assess designs, project plans, and manufacturing processes
  • Analyse, manage and communicate problems and risks throughout the maturation process
  • Motivate and influence others, including colleagues, management, & suppliers
  • Lead technical problem solving activities
  • Critically evaluate and approve supplier deliverables, including sample submissions
  • Share and implement lessons learnt, and drive improvements to meet targets



These activities may sometimes involve travel to supplier production locations, development sites, or other VW Group facilities. Virtual/remote working tools are used to avoid unnecessary travel where practical to do so.



About the Person

The successful candidate will be in a quality, engineering, manufacturing or logistics role and will have established communication and influencing skills, including managing conflict and facilitating discussions to achieve a constructive outcome. Persistence, organisation, an eye for detail, and the ability to process and prioritise complex information are also key skills. An engineering degree is beneficial (or equivalent experience).



You will demonstrate:

  • Technical expertise across multiple product types or commodities, or as a specialist in one particular commodity (automotive preferred)
  • Experience of using Quality core tools, including part maturation planning (e.g. APQP/MLA), process risk assessment (e.g. FMEA), process and measurement capability analysis (e.g. SPC, MSA).
  • Problem solving skills, including formal approaches (e.g. 8D).
  • Understanding of the automotive product development process (PEP).
  • MS Suite IT skills.
  • Driving licence (for supplier visits).
