REQ ID: 98463JOB TITLE: Senior Vendor Tooling EngineerSALARY: CompetitiveLOCATION: GaydonBeyond Property, Purchasing, HR and IT, more than being part of our Finance or Marketing teams, beyond even Sales and Service, every role in every business area offers unique opportunities to make an impact on the future of mobility and the automotive industry.What To ExpectThe Finance Department offers a unique and highly challenging experience with business-wide exposure and development, where the key to success is the ability to manage our internal customer’s expectations and deliver against their requirement using resources assigned against multiple and often conflicting priorities.The Vendor Tooling Department is a subdivision of the Cost Engineering function within the Finance Department and is responsible for ensuring the correct use of Jaguar Land Rover funds appertaining to all aspects of supplier-based tooling in line with product aspirations.Cost Engineering is an exciting department that plays a key role in our business; it is driven by a passion to deliver profitable growth, by partnering the business in all our operational functions (principally Product Development, Advanced Product Creation, Finance and Purchasing).THE ROLEAs a Vendor Tooling Cost Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic team focused on specific vehicle commodities associated with one of several teams and you’ll be responsible for ddelivering ‘vendor tooling should cost’ estimates for a specific sub-set of parts; Vendor Tooling cost and content sign off; Cost Interrogation and Supplier/ Toolmaker negotiation; Commercial Activity; supporting the Purchase team in their negotiations with suppliers; Influencing programme affordability by identifying & pursuing volume appropriate tooling solutions; working closely with Design Engineers as a business advisor; identifying and supporting the implementation of opportunities to reduce costs; influencing relevant programs and commodity directions; driving cross-functional commercial and technical initiatives within the matched trio framework; perform value for money cost analysis on component design changes – part and tooling; to be a role model and inspire others to excel in professional behaviour and technical expertise; undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time.Key Responsibilities will include:
  • Vendor Tooling Should Cost Analysis - Deliver independent Vendor Tooling should costs, ensuring conformity to departmental procedures and processes, involving detailed, directional and greenfield assumptions. Ensure VT should costs include all aspects that go into a tooling cost.
  • Cost Negotiation - Play a leading role driving supplier negotiations, both within and in addition to cross functional team activities at, the tendering process, engineering design changes and supplier claims.
  • Tool Line Up - Be able to independently construct a best economic tooling solution, understanding volumes and requirements to identify the tooling required at each stage of the part manufacture process. Be technically capable of identifying and promoting best solutions in discussions with suppliers.
  • Supplier Review - Use technical and commercial expertise to review, validate and drive Best Practice in supplier processes. Take a lead role within the Matched Trio: To support supplier selection activities, production of the Quotation request (RFQ), Quotation analysis (QAF) review, process modelling and verification.
  • Cost Engineering Support - Undertake cost (PACN) studies and Value for Money (VFM) review, material and economic claims. Supplier QAF analysis. Assist and advise Product Engineering on cost impact of design alternatives.
What You’ll NeedIn order to be considered for this position you need to hold a formal qualification such as Degree within Engineering or any other relevant subjects.The successful candidate needs to understand Tool & Component Design; Production Process Manufacturing Experience; have an effective cross-functional team working experience; influencing skills to manage the activities with a good level of independence and the ability to manage, maintain and utilise data to support cost activities.Essential
  • Understand the principles and inputs into part cost.
  • Tool Design knowledge and experience, preferably across multiple process technologies.
  • Generating tool costs experience.
  • Global tool sourcing experience/background.
