Fleming ward is a 31 bedded female ward. We uphold ourselves to provide our patients a first class service, with our embedded priority to be patient safety. Our staff members are passionate and caring, we encourage each other to perform to the best of our abilities, which in turn has a direct impact on the care we deliver.

We care for a variety of respiratory conditions including Pulmonary Fibrosis, COPD, Asthma, Pneumonia and Lung Cancer, alongside acute type 1 & 2 respiratory failures.

Berman 1 is a mixed sex respiratory ward. Our patients come to us from the Respiratory Assessment Unit which operates a 24/7 direct admissions service. We also accept patients from other admissions areas and step down patients from ITU and ARCU. Our patients present with a wide range of respiratory conditions including COPD, asthma, lung cancer and pneumonia. We care for patients with varied clinical needs including those with chest drains, tracheostomies and NIV (Non-Invasive Ventilation) and those requiring end of life care.

The successful nurse can also expect a significant supernumerary period working alongside a named preceptor and working with a clinical educator.

The learning opportunities within respiratory are endless; Fleming are passionate about self-development and progression. We are fortunate to have dedicated nurse educators who facilitate learning development in our state of the art respiratory education centre- based at city hospital.

Clinical skills such as: chest drain management, Tracheostomy care and Non- Invasive Ventilation training will be conducted here.

There are many opportunities to develop your nursing career within respiratory medicine including specialist nurse roles, ward management roles and advanced nursing practitioner opportunities.

Newly qualified nurses will be offered lots of support within your preceptorship period and beyond.
