This is a unique opportunity to work within Gateway F, Gynaecology/Colposcopy in the Nottingham NHS Treatment Centre based at Nottingham University Hospitals Queens Medical Campus.

Gateway F provides Gynaecology/Colposcopy Ambulatory Outpatient services, providing patients from Nottinghamshire and further, with specialised Consultant and nurse led clinics, in a modern, purpose built environment.

Due to the nature of this role we require a female nurse who is dedicated, patient focused and registered nurse who is committed to providing the highest standards of nursing care for our patients.

You will work closely with all members of the nursing team including, Nurse Consultants, Registered Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and other Allied Health Professionals, contributing to the development of a highly skilled workforce and multidisciplinary team.

We offer a supportive teamwork structure and an opportunity to further your clinical knowledge and skills, gaining competency by assisting in a variety of gynaecology outpatient treatment clinics and ambulatory clinics including Post-Menopausal Bleeding, Post Coital Bleeding, Colposcopy, and General Gynaecology Clinics. Procedures include Outpatient Hysteroscopy and Colposcopy treatments.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care ensuring that these are evaluated and amended as appropriate.

Document the condition and progress of patients and report to medical staff and/or senior nursing staff any areas of concern. Always acts with regard for the privacy and dignity of the patient.

Undertake nursing procedures and techniques in accordance with agreed policies and guidelines.

Demonstrate clinical procedures to registered and unregistered staff as required.

Once competent in team management skills, takes charge of the clinical area on a regular basis in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility or his/her deputy.

Participate in the support and implementation of Essence of Care guidelines, nursing metric results and patient feedback.

Be aware of your role with regard to the Medicines Code of Practice.

Comply with all Trust policies and risk assessments with particular regard to the policies and procedures carried out in the event of maintaining staff and patient safety.

Liaise with other clinical areas providing appropriate policies, education and clinical expertise in order to facilitate the management of patients with special requirements.

Plan, develop and implement approaches to promote health and wellbeing of patients and improve their health status.

Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team in order to promote efficient patient care.

Report all accidents and untoward incidents to the nurse in charge of the area and complete relevant documentation

Be aware of the need for confidentiality both within the written and spoken word and ensure correct storage of patients’ records at all times, to comply with the Information Governance Code.

Liaise with other clinical areas as necessary for the coordination of patient care and the smooth running of the department.

Support a culture of teamwork within the clinical area.

Use resources effectively in order to provide quality patient care whist having an awareness of budgetary issues.

Assist the deputy sister/sister in introducing new members of staff to their duties, act as a preceptor to newly qualified staff.

Supervise and assess registered and unregistered staff as appropriate.

Undertake a recognised mentoring course

Take all reasonable steps to ensure the safe keeping of patients’ property in accordance with Trust policy.

Ensure where appropriate that the programmes of training for learners, both student nurses and nursing auxiliaries/health care assistants are completed.

Undertake formal and informal teaching sessions as required and undertake training to act as a mentor to students.

Contribute to the monitoring and control of expenditure and use of resources.

Need to be aware of the principles of risk management and clinical Governance in relation to the department. Ensure policies on the use of equipment are adhered to and take responsibility for ensuring suitable maintenance of equipment.

Ensure continued, effective registration with the NMC

Contribute to making the clinical environment conductive to learning and development where individuals feel able to discuss ideas and action as well as showing initiative. Act as a preceptor/mentor to new staff/students/NVQ/TNA trainees and help in teaching, orientation and the maintenance of their objectives.

Undertake any ‘Working in New Ways Packages’, which have been identified by the department Sister/Charge Nurse and are integral to the role requirements and specialty area. Under normal circumstances these must be completed in accordance with the ‘Working in New Way’s Policy and Guidelines.

Essential criteria

  • Current level one NMC registration with valid PIN Number

Desirable criteria

  • Diploma or degree in health / nursing related studies
  • Evidence of continuing professional development / reflective profile

  • Previous experience in Gynaecology

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Recent experience of working within an acute hospital setting.
