Production Engineer vacancy (permanent)

To support the senior engineering team as the business grows, a brand-new vacancy for a Production Engineer has been created to work for our hidden gem of a sub-contract CNC precision engineering business in the heart of Gloucestershire.

The reputation for quality we have established has resulted in a broad and diverse customer base with precision machined component parts being supplied every day to small, private customers and to larger household name businesses alike in the medical, pharmaceutical, oil and gas, aerospace and motorsport industries amongst others.

Joining the company to take on a lead engineering position, your technical skills and experience will help us to make sure our machining processes are the best they can be, delivering products of the highest quality to our customers.

Job title: Production Engineer (CNC precision engineering machine shop)
Location: Gloucestershire, just off the M5 motorway and the A38. We’re 25 minutes from Bristol, 15 minutes from Gloucester.
Working hours: 7.45 am to 4.30 pm Monday to Thursday and 7.45 am -12.30 pm on Friday
Salary: We’re planning to offer a salary of £45,000 - £50,000 and we’re happy to discuss your salary expectations to meet your requirements.

This job might suit: Production Engineer, CNC Programmer, Manufacturing Engineer or perhaps Operations Manager of a sub contract precision engineering business.
Commutable from: Bristol, Thornbury, Yate, Newent, Tewkesbury, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Stonehouse, Stroud and surrounding areas.

Your duties as Production Engineer will include (amongst other things):

receiving customer drawings, clarifying and querying as required;
programming 3 and 4 axis CNC mills and CNC lathes with y axis for off-centre milling, both at the machine and using CAD CAM software;
identifying and selecting best tooling for each job;
program prove out, review and refine;
looking into non-conformances to ensure accurate reporting, timely closure, containment and corrective action;
optimising machining operations where possible and generally driving machining efficiency;
working with a small group of skilled and experienced CNC Machinists and drawing on the experience of the more experienced engineers to agree best courses of action and
supporting the less experienced members of the team in their development.

About you (the essentials)
You’ll be an experienced CNC Programmer, and will have experience of:

reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings and customer specifications;
programming 3 and 4 axis CNC mills and CNC lathes with y axis for off-centre milling, both at the machine and using CAD CAM software (we’ll train you on the software we use if your experience is with different software);
selecting appropriate tooling and working with tooling representatives when needed;
writing machining methods, clarifying best order of operations;
managing time efficiently to meet required deadlines.
