Principal Clinical Psychologist Band 8b, Full time 37.5 hours per week.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist to work with the Universal Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team (UCRHTT) for Sunderland and South Tyneside, based at Hopewood Park Hospital, Sunderland. The team offers assessment and home treatment (as an alternative to hospital admission) for adults, older adults and children and young people experiencing a mental health crisis. This role will provide psychological input to the Adult and Older Adult (functional) parts of the crisis service and will also provide some indirect clinical input and support to CNTW staff who work as part of the North East Veterans Service which is part of Operation Courage.

The post holder will be an integral part of the UCRHTT multi-disciplinary and leadership teams. As this is a new post they will have the opportunity to work with the MDT and the Associate Director Psychological Services to shape the role and ensure the most effective use of the psychology time in contributing to the delivery and continuous development of a high quality service.

The post holder will carry out both direct and indirect work to assist individuals with complex presentations and contribute to the team’s understanding in order to enable the best possible plans to support them to be devised and delivered. They will be responsible for providing direct specialist psychological assessment (including neuropsychological assessment), formulation and brief interventions with service users and families. The role involves supporting multidisciplinary staff to provide psychologically trauma informed care with service users, facilitating team formulation and reflective practice, and contributing to the understanding of complex risks and the development of safety plans. The role may also involve evaluation, research and audit.

The role also supports the development and delivery of training and post training supervision for multidisciplinary colleagues in a range of psychological interventions suitable for complex mental health problems in crisis settings.

The post holder will be part of a valued psychological service in the South Locality and the Trust, providing input into community based and specialist services across the lifespan. Psychological Services have a range of regular meetings and support activities to ensure professional governance and to promote evidence based and innovative psychologically informed care. There are trust wide clinical networks in Adult Mental Health, Crisis and Liaison, Older Persons and Personality and Complex Trauma which are relevant to the service provided by the UCRHTT and this role.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to support crisis service development and to provide clinical leadership within a complex and challenging but rewarding multi-disciplinary setting.
