We’ve got a great opportunity for a Press Officer to join our Corporate Affairs department on a fixed-term basis of 12 months.

As Press Officer, you’ll provide support in identifying and maximising media opportunities for regional coverage, social media engagement and producing content for the news pages of the company website.

Job Accountabilities*

  • Identifying publicity opportunities
  • Delivering a media relations plan to protect and enhance United Utilities’ reputation
  • Planning and organising own workload
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with regional journalists
  • Providing media relations advice and support to managers across United Utilities business streams
  • Playing a pivotal role in issues management and crisis communications
  • Participate in a rota to provide a 24/7 media relations service

Knowledge and Skills

  • Of graduate calibre with professional qualification in PR/communications, NCTJ Diploma in Journalism or experience of working in a media relations environment for a significant period
  • Proven media relations skills and a track-record in managing reputational issues
  • A solid understanding of the UK regional media landscape
  • Results-orientated, self-motivated and proactive with the ambition to make a real business impact
  • Evidence of success in delivering, either in-house or at an agency, high profile media relations activity, with a proven track record of creative thinking to generate innovative stories which promote and enhance UU’s reputation
  • Excellent planning, organisational and delivery skills that demonstrate a strong grasp of media relations management with excellent attention to detail, accompanied by strong all-round Public Relations management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Excellent communicator, written and verbal, with the ability to write creative, engaging copy following tone of voice guidelines
  • Strong time management skills as well as the ability to maintain high levels of professionalism under pressure and multi task
  • A good team player
