Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Education

Prioritising and planning workload to include working to maintain professional skills, knowledge, and competence and ensure effective understanding of the contemporary clinical practice context. Act as an expert professional resource for the Nottingham Breast Institute and Trust.

Be a visible, accessible and assertive point of contact for staff and students, coordinating and leading on an agreed portfolio of responsibility within the Institute

Lead in the development and advancement of mammographic practice, emphasising the implementation of evidence-based knowledge into practice.

Promote reflective practice and a culture of lifelong learning.

Proactively seek feedback on student experience and act on recommendations as required.

Ensure the highest standards of patient care (metrics/audits/research/ benchmarking data) are in place and reviewed accordingly. Facilitate the development of clear action plans to address any care deficiencies and ensure agreed actions are implemented and evaluated.

Respond promptly to, complaints, and incidents and develop and participate in appropriate action plans.

Lead and facilitate the development of guidelines protocols, policies and procedures utilising; benchmarking, risk assessments and best practice guidelines. Implement and ensure best practice is embedded within service delivery.

Actively encourage the use of information and standards to improve quality, as required to meet required quality assurance and scrutiny.

Ensure a two way process of communication and consultation takes place with respect to appropriate guidelines/policies/procedures and, when required, feedback comments to relevant bodies.

Lead the implementation of relevant new research based practice and encourage and facilitate active participation in research based projects, thus promoting clinical effectiveness.

Actively encourage research activity to build up the evidence base available.

Identify and lead audit projects as required. Ensure that audit recommendations are implemented where practicable.

Facilitate practice development and innovation to ensure practice meets external healthcare standards as required.

Communication

Be responsible for developing and ensuring effective communication between the Nottingham Breast Institute and other relevant stakeholders and educational providers.

Facilitate communication, which results in clear responsibilities being identified within the Institute and other multi-professional teams as required.

Disseminate effective and appropriate information Utilise a range of communication methods including written, verbal and social media (in line with trust policy and professional code) to promote the trust and Institute.

Ensure all team members are kept informed of practice development, research, education policy, strategy and progress.

Represent the Nottingham International Breast Education Centre at local, regional and national level to disseminate developments in practice and develop networks.

Managerial

Working in partnership with the Training and Education Manager:-

Ensure the delivery of training is in accordance with current policies, procedures, guidelines and practice

Lead, motivate and develop effective project teams which work towards agreed goals.

Represent NIBEC at key meetings with internal /external stakeholders as require

Develop effective working relationships with all key partners, MDT and stakeholders across NUH and externally to ensure two way feedback, communication and partnership working.

Lead the development of objectives and standards of clinical practice to support service aims.

Take a leading role in influencing service modernisation and service changes.. Actively participate in service modernisation, which indirectly impacts on the Trust and Divisions.

Contribute to the development and delivery of the mammography associates programme and post graduate modules.

Actively lead and participate in the process of recruitment of staff, students and learners as required to meet the business critical needs of the trust.

Create a working climate, which encourages flexible team working amongst staff whilst allowing them the opportunity to show initiative. Leading, developing and encouraging staff to participate in a shared governance approach to decision making. Identify and minimise interpersonal conflicts that may affect team or individual performance.

Monitor expenditure and the use of resources for training and development within the agreed budget and contribute to increasing efficiency and controlling costs in the Institute and make recommendations for future expenditure within agreed limits.

Initiate and implement change effectively in response to clinical or organisational demands.

Lead the development of an effective learning environment which is conducive to life-long learning for all staff.

Actively participate in teaching and assessing

Provide an authoritative and credible source of knowledge and advice/information to the teams, taking an active role in self-development, objectively reviewing own performance.

Person specification

Training and education

Essential criteria

  • Current professional registration with a professional body (HCPC or NMC)
  • Trained in techniques to deliver teaching and learning
  • Degree level qualification

Desirable criteria

  • Master’s Degree level qualification.
  • Teaching & Assessing Qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Significant post-registration experience to include; management/leadership experience and clinical specialities.
  • Continuing professional development/reflective profile
  • Experienced clinical supervisor/mentor and participating in clinical supervision/mentorship/action learning for own support and development.
  • Evidence of ability to teach skills to other healthcare professionals

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of teaching within university or apprenticeship setting
  • Formal leadership and management training.

Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria

  • Able to present and receive complex information within the multi professional team.
  • Demonstrate evidence of providing formal teaching sessions.
  • Team player who can initiate, delegate and complete projects.

Desirable criteria

  • Experienced of presenting regionally and nationally
