Job Description 1

We’re looking for an individual, who as a part of a team, will identify and develop Partnership Funding opportunities for the East Anglian Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Programme, covering Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.

You will proactively manage our partnership funding position across East Anglia, seeking opportunities to secure funding for projects, resolving complex funding issues, and identifying mutual benefits for businesses, communities and the environment.

You will lead and inspire others to think differently and create opportunities, and mentor staff across teams involved in partnership work. You will also provide specialist advice, guidance and training to senior managers and external partners, and liaise with our National Programme Management Office on delivering messages and achieving targets.

You will build and sustain excellent working relationships with partners, promoting and enhancing the Environment Agency’s goals and reputation. Representing the EA in key meetings and negotiations, you will play a lead role in securing contributions to enable projects to proceed, confirming our status as a trusted and professional organisation.

As a Senior Advisor you will also support the team leader by providing technical leadership and mentoring to team members.

In East Anglia we want to create a diverse workplace where people are respected, valued and listened to. We’re all different, and by embracing Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) we can become an equal opportunity employer where jointly we all grow and learn together.

It is our ambition to champion diversity through building a workforce as diverse as the communities we serve.

The post is full-time although requests for other work patterns will be considered.

The Area Programme Teams enable the delivery of the Environment Agency’s £5.2bn capital programme, protecting people, properties, and the environment from the effects of climate change. Working closely with colleagues and professional partners, we track spend and performance across a suite of projects ranging from the creation and maintenance of flood defence assets to environmental enhancements and Natural Flood Management. Identifying and securing partnership funding is a key aspect in enabling these projects.

Through experience to date, you should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to build relationships across a diverse customer base.
  • Data management skills with the ability to interpret data.
  • Strong, effective communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Coaching and mentoring skills to get the best out of people and support their development.
  • Strong organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Delivering results through others; especially important when working across different teams and organisations.
  • Decision making, initiative, problem solving, flexibility, and innovation.
  • A full UK Driving Licence is essential.
It would be helpful, but not essential, if you had:

  • An appreciation of project and programme management.
  • Knowledge of funding sources.
FCRM experience is not essential. A proactive approach, professionalism, and an eagerness to learn will ensure you’re able to develop and thrive in the role.
