Job DescriptionFlooding represents a crucial challenge both now and into the future as the impacts of climate change become apparent. Having a strategic overview of all sources of flooding, the Environment Agency has a pivotal role in shaping our response to this increasing challenge.We’re investing £5.2 billion between now and 2027 to reduce flood risk to 336,000 properties across the UK. It’s an exciting time and we need your help to ensure we’re prepared for any future flooding and coastal change. Working as a Flood and Coastal Risk Management Advisor in the Partnerships and Strategic Overview Team you’ll take projects from the initial identification of a need, development of options and through construction.Responsibilities will include:
  • Representing stakeholders in the development of our flood risk management projects and helping other Risk Management Authorities [RMAs] in developing their projects.
  • Developing and maintaining good internal and external working relationships with key partners and communities to improve flood risk management outcomes.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do, and you will be required to have an incident role. Incident roles can take place during, or optionally, outside of your normal working hours. Incident work done outside of regular working hours attracts an additional payment and can also include time off in lieu. Full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.You’ll be based in either our Fradley (Lichfield) or Birmingham office and we offer flexible hybrid working home and office. We use a wide range of skills to help us plan for the future. They include the examination of data to inform future investment plans, engagement with communities and professional partners and developing strategic approaches to future flood risk management. We work in partnership with communities and other organisations to protect people and property from future flood riskExperience/skills RequiredYou have experience working in project teams and you’ll have a range of skills:
  • An understanding of flood and coastal risk management including engineering and nature-based solutions.
  • Experience of the project environment, developing, assessing and evaluating business cases.
  • Good problem-solving capabilities including developing innovative solutions.
  • Good communication skills including engagement, influencing, negotiation, customer and relationship management.
  • Able to organise and deliver time critical work by planning, tracking, gathering and maintaining data/information.
  • Be team orientated and able to technically coach and mentor others.
  • Flexible to the needs of the organisation and new ways of working.
  • Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems advantageous.
