The Microbiology Department is looking to recruit an efficient and enthusiastic Secretary who will assist the other office staff and the rest of the laboratory team with the general administration for this busy team.To participate in the provision of a specialised, diagnostic, microbiology service contributing to the clinical care of the patient, to enable diagnosis and subsequent monitoring of the effectiveness of treatment given. The individual will be expected to provide comprehensive, secretarial and administrative support to the Head Biomedical Scientist, Scientific Staff, Consultants and Specialist Registrars helping to deliver a high quality and timely service.This includes word processing using various computer software programs i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and the use of a quality management system, information systems and various databases. The post necessitates working unsupervised, using own initiative and managing workload on a daily basis, to ensure the effective, smooth running of the Microbiology Department.The successful individuals will be expected to posses effective secretarial and organisational skills and be able to work as part of our busy team.
  • Assist in the planning and approval of staff annual leave within set parameters using the Trust Health Roster IT system.
  • Record and assist in monitoring of staff sickness and other absence, within set parameters and using the Trust Health Roster IT system.
  • Maintain and continue to develop a high level of competence relating to administrative and computer/IT skills.
  • Participate in training staff as required.
