To support growth in Architecture and ongoing work in other subjects (especially Art) Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts seeks to appoint a technician to support our teaching and research activity. Working closely with other members of the technical team you will play a key role in delivering specialist technical provision and support across LICA’s teaching, research and assessment.

You will play an important role in ensuring that LICA’s technical support is of the highest professional standard, and that the student and professional artist experience is safe, positive and supportive.

You will provide specific expertise and responsibility of the following areas:
  • Management of a workshop used for woodworking and model making
  • Supervision of hand tools, power tools, 3D Printers and laser cutters
  • Ability to translate ideas and concepts from plans to physical creations
  • Induction of students and staff into safe working practices
  • Experience and working knowledge of workshop health and safety
  • Management of relevant IT systems that support technical work and provision of services
  • Purchasing and supplying materials for projects
  • Responsibility for testing and commissioning of workshop equipment
  • Support for teaching sessions
  • Support for equipment hire
  • Experience in using AutoCad, Vectric, Fusion 360 or relevant design software such as Rhino or Sketchup would be beneficial.
