There is an exciting opportunity to join the Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (ESALA) as a Lecturer in Architectural Structures.

The Opportunity:

Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer in Architectural Structures. This role will be responsible for delivering inspirational teaching across ESALA’ s undergraduate and postgraduate architecture programmes and undertaking impactful research. The post-holder will have demonstrable knowledge of architectural pedagogy, with a particular emphasis on contemporary building technologies and proficiency in innovative, sustainable, lean construction. Expertise in challenging and effecting change in relation to low carbon, climate positive solutions is desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the pedagogical integration of design, technology, and theory in the context of climate adaptation.

The successful candidate will be expected to work with the existing teaching team to contribute to decision making at a programme and school level. The role will involve the organisation and administration of courses and procedures to ensure the successful running of courses, and the post-holder will provide student support to individuals engaged in ESALA ’ s programmes, as well as maintaining links with the School of Engineering ’ s programme Structural Engineering with Architecture.

ESALA is seeking candidates with the educational background and experience necessary to contribute to all aspects of architectural pedagogy, with a focus on the future horizons of architecture practice in an age of climate emergency. The successful candidate will act as an agent of change, contribut ing to a collective imagination of the future of architectural education in our school.

The post holder will have the capacity to supervise postgraduate research students through traditional thesis and/or through practice-led scholarship.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • PhD or equivalent professional experience.
  • A professionally accredited degree in architecture and / or structural engineering with architecture and / or structural engineering.
  • Possess strong communication skills.
  • A record of research activity, as demonstrated through high-quality research outputs.
  • Experience of teaching architecture, structures, construction, built environment, architectural technology, climatic control, and related subjects.
