The Lead Nurse for Radiology will lead and manage the service alongside the Clinical Director, General Manager and Operational Clinical Lead, ensuring the delivery of a high quality governance agenda which optimises service delivery.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be accountable for the nursing care provided by Radiology, with a focus on driving forward clinical patient safety. They will be accountable for the efficient and effective operational management across the service, guaranteeing provision of high quality evidence based nursing and operating department practice.

The Lead Nurse will be a strong clinical leader, easily identifiable, highly visible and accessible to patients, carers and staff. The post holder will have a particular responsibility to support the development of Clinical Standards, Governance and Service Improvement, to modernise patient services and ensure the active involvement of patients and carers in the way services are developed, delivered and evaluated.

They will be expected to represent the Directorate at senior meetings across the Trust

The post holder will be based across NUH and after a period of time in post/following training will be expected to participate in a trust wide on call rota that ensures there is senior professional leadership for the Trust 7 days per week.

Radiology is one of 5 directorates within the division of clinical support

It is led by a Clinical Director, Lead radiographer and General manager

It comprises of a number of modalities including plain film, interventional radiology, ultrasound, neuro diagnostics etc. It cares for both adults and paediatrics

Radiology is at the forefront of many research programmes and new surgical procedures. NUH support vital research into hearing, digestive diseases, respiratory, musculoskeletal disease, mental health and imaging.

You will be working alongside a supportive team of radiographers, nurses and Radiologists to achieve standards of excellence in Radiology

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Leadership -

To lead the Quality and governance agenda across radiology services, Proactively lead the decision making process, collecting and analysing information in order to make effective decisions in complex situations

Line management and performance management

Service Delivery:

Accountable for the service delivery across all Radiology locations, ensuring the provision of high quality clinical care.

Challenge existing practices, ensuring that progressive solutions, which take into account models of best practice, are incorporated into service plans.

Support teams to deliver service redesign projects

Provide professional leadership to the Matron and all nursing staff across Radiology

Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, health and safety standards

Healthcare Standards:

maintain and improve standards of nursing practice

Ensure the service meets/exceeds healthcare standards specifically leading on the National Safety Standards for Invasive Procedures

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • NMC registered
  • First degree or equivalent in health related subject
  • Management Qualification or equivalent level of experience
  • In-depth knowledge of governance and risk management

Desirable criteria

  • Working towards Masters qualification

Experience

  • Evidence of leading and delivering programmes of change within an acute NHS Trust
  • clinical experience within an acute NHS setting
  • Experience of line management of groups of staff working in different clinical areas
  • Experience of leading and delivering programmes of change

Communication & Judgment skills

Essential criteria

  • Evidence of the ability to problem solve and proactively manage competing scenarios
  • Evidence of the ability to work successfully within MDT
  • Can demonstrate the ability to utilise IT systems to produce reports, performance information, governance information as required
