About the Role

We are seeking a Lead Designer to join the business on a permanent basis at our Crewe Campus (with hybrid working). Reporting directly to the Head of Colour and Trim, the Lead Designer will be responsible for creating and leading the generation design solutions for Bentley’s new products. The role will coordinate and deliver proposals and concepts, integrating the Brand values and the Design strategy developed into concrete design alternatives in 2D, 3D and digital media as well as develop and present formal and functional solutions that integrate innovation and creativity in future Bentley product proposals, achieving a high visual quality fulfilling the agreed technical and ergonomic requirements. The role leads Design development proposals in house or in co-operation with external partners.



The CMF team bring Bentley’s automotive surfaces to life through the emotional connection with extraordinary colour, materials and finishes. We provide continuous innovation, incorporating our Bentley Sustainability strategy, collaborating with innovation partners, delivering unique craftsmanship ideation, strengthening design strategies throughout Design, and across the VW Group.



The role offers an exciting opportunity at a pivotal time in Bentley’s history to undertake a senior role within a forward thinking design team, playing an integral part in developing the company’s future product portfolio.



Key responsibilities include:

  • Design development
  • Delivery of projects
  • Problem solving
  • Developing designs in 3-Dimensions
  • Working in collaborations with an immediate team, the wider functions and external suppliers to achieve the set design objectives



About the Person

The successful candidate will have experience gained from an automotive design environment, with proven ability to design and develop forward thinking and innovative design proposals. You will have experience as a CMF (Colours, Materials and Finishes) automotive designer with examples of design production or conceptual projects that have been undertaken and/or managed. You will have a degree in design or equivalent experience.



You will demonstrate:

  • Skill to design and develop forward thinking and innovative design proposals within an automotive environment
  • Ability to solve complex problems and provide creative solutions
  • Ability to communicate and present design proposals and ideas across the company in different forums
  • An understanding of feasibility and production methodology along with 2D and 3D IT skills such as Photoshop and 3D CAD software skills are essential
  • An understanding of financial budgeting
