Job Description:

Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to create and implement the talent strategy for the Functions in dentsu across the Global Functions, Regions and key markets. Functions are critical business enablers for dentsu and play a key role in the Business Transformation Programme. The role would partner with the HR Director Functions and work in collaboration with the Senior Functional Leaders in creating this strategy. The role would take the lead in rolling out the strategy across the global functions and key markets in collaboration with the regional and the market-based HR Leaders. The critical goals for the role will include – enabling the creation of a robust internal succession slate for key roles in the functions, identification and closely following through the careers of high potential talent and driving uniform and meaningful participation in the talent programs like Route 500. Through driving the succession planning and talent strategy, the role would support the functions in achieving the transformation and commercial goals.

This role will also have the opportunity to partner with the Legal function and support the strategic and operational HR priorities on a day to day basis. The role will partner closely with the dentsu General Counsel and the Legal leadership Team in the business.

All major functions in dentsu are going through transformation in line with the Business Transformation Programme. Through key talent identification and development, the role is a critical enabler in being able to support the functions in developing and implementing a people strategy which drives the transformation and organisation design of the function in line with dentsu’s Transformation Program. Partnership with regional and markets HR colleagues and the Regional Talent Directors is key to ensure an agreement and support for a cohesive, collaborative and practical approach to talent development in functions.

Key Accountabilities

Key priorities and responsibilities will include:

  • Working alongside HR Director Functions and Senior Functional Leaders, create and deliver on a futuristic and practical talent strategy aimed at different career levels for the functions across the Global, Regional and key Markets

  • Ensure the dentsu talent and career framework supports the functional transformation and results in creating a robust internal talent pipeline for key roles post transformation

  • Create alignment between existing talent programs year-end talent reviews and create a clear picture on how these interventions fit in the overall talent strategy for the functions.

  • Defining the right approach to high potential talent, building on the strengths of the current Game Changing Talent programs but making sure the experience and outcomes are relevant to the talent and needs of the business.

  • Educate the regional and market HR teams on the functional talent and career framework and lay out the method for rolling it out in Regions and Markets including creating an annual calendar that feeds into key reviews

  • Create multiyear succession plans for critical roles in function and have an oversight of the talent development plan for potential successors

  • Ensure the career development framework is focussed on giving colleagues in functions diverse experiences across functional disciplines (pillars for finance, operating model in HR) and markets

  • Crafting and driving a strategy to scale for functions, establishing effective ways to move people across the group and building a positive culture of career development and movement

  • Support the communication and education on career framework and other talent framework mechanisms in the company

  • Enable the DEI agenda for functions

  • Drive a global approach to talent planning and people movement to ensure readiness for the Top 50 functional leadership roles, getting functional leaders involved in the sponsorship and decision making around senior talent, people moves, and external hires

  • Identifying gaps in succession and working with the HR Director functions and Regional HRDs on planning for external talent acquisition activity for senior roles in functions

  • Support the functions in leverage the best-in-class talent and career development tools being developed by the global talent function

  • As the Legal HR Partner support the Legal transformation and creation of the legal operations team

  • Accountable for all the strategic and operations HR priorities for the legal team

Person Specification

This is an experienced HR role supporting the success of the Functions (circa 4500 colleagues) at dentsu and as such we are looking for someone passionate about talent and people development with a commercial, proactive, and strategic yet practical mind-set.

Desired attributes will include:

  • Prior HR expertise in business partnering with senior leaders, change management, development of high performing organisations through talent development

  • An individual with strong business acumen who sees the opportunity to drive change

  • Intellectual agility, good quality judgement and collaborative skills

  • Adept at operating within a highly matrixed environment where influence and relationship building is of the upmost importance

  • A good relationship builder, confident and pragmatic, and will have the ability to quickly get to know the people and get things done in an ambiguous and self-starting environment

  • Proven experience in talent and HR role in talent-centric businesses

  • Will not be a talent purist, but someone who can draw on frontline HR experience gained in a high-performance culture, to move fluidly across theory and practice

  • Will have operated in a fast-moving sector, where technology plays a key role
