Role Overview

The dentsu Media & Global Clients legal team are expanding and looking for a paralegal to join us as we continue to provide practical and focused legal advice and administrative support to the Media service line, which includes The Story Lab (a media entertainment company), Amplifi (dentsu’s media innovation and investment arm) and the Global Clients team (supporting dentsu’s international media planning and buying clients).

The role is broad and involves a wide range of interesting and challenging work. Key Responsibilities

Contract Management

  • Management of formalities for contracting (including contract approvals, obtaining signatures internally and from licensees/clients/suppliers, undertaking relevant legal compliance checks and managing notarisation processes, as applicable).

  • Preparing and finalising legal documents, including lengthy and complicated contracts.

  • Filing of hard and electronic soft copy documents in accordance with dentsu systems and processes, including maintaining our contract management platforms.

  • Preparing contract summaries of key agreements (e.g. tv sales and acquisitions licences and global client agreements).

  • Monitoring and managing contract life cycles, including maintaining streams of communications with various internal teams to update them on the contract life cycle, and assisting with contract extensions, terminations, amendments and data processing instructions.

  • Assisting with new business processes, including conflict checks and RFI responses.

  • Liaising with the sales and finance teams to ensure timely and accurate invoicing.

Drafting & Legal Support

  • Supporting the licensing of format options/sales and acquisitions, tv programme sales, and reviewing non-disclosure agreements and a range of commercial contracts (including media planning and buying agreements).

  • Drafting simple options and licences, reviewing redlines received from third parties that are operating off dentsu templates for the above agreement types, and (with training and supervision), negotiating them to signature.

  • Providing support on the technology and data aspects of commercial media agreements (including in relation to GDPR legislation) and reviewing data protection agreements.

  • Undertaking ad hoc legal research for the legal and commercial teams.

Management of the Rights Database

  • Responsible for the inputting and amending of contracts (including legal rights) onto The Story Lab’s rights and sales database, Easy Track; liaising with the sales and finance teams as required including attending regular EasyTrack meetings and providing various rights reports for the sales and finance teams upon request.

  • Liaising with Easy Track’s support team in relation to system adjustments and system issues.

Supporting Group-wide Initiatives

  • Maintaining and creating legal precedent documents, templates and internal guidance documents.

  • Preparing presentations and training materials.

  • Assisting legal team projects and initiatives, including development of dentsu intranet sites and training sessions.

  • Assisting with implementing compliance strategies, data initiatives and developing legal policies and processes to standardise Group conduct within the Media service line.

Key Skills and Experience

  • 5 years’ experience as a paralegal in a law firm or large global business

  • Experience in intellectual property, tv production/distribution and/or commercial media contracts (in-house or in private practice) preferred but not essential.

  • Excellent attention to detail, with high standards of accuracy and presentation.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and resilience in the face of a constantly changing set of priorities and demands.

  • A self-starter, who uses initiative and is willing to jump in to assist wherever possible.

  • The ability to keep calm whilst juggling multiple deliverables against rapidly changing timelines with ease.

  • Very strong communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills and the experience and professionalism to interface effectively with dentsu international Executives.

  • A good understanding of the role and responsibilities of a legal and compliance function.

  • Good Outlook, PowerPoint and Word skills and a working knowledge of Excel.

  • An ability to build relationships quickly and easily across all levels of the organisation.

  • A ‘can do’ attitude combined with a positive outlook and willingness to learn new things.
