Covering many responsibilities to include: No 4 School of Technical Training (4SoTT) - preparation of all material used by the Gen Tech Workshops trade for welding, sheet metal work, milling and lathe work. Furthermore, the post supports both METF and ETF through the development of Ground Training Aids and specialist equipment required for the delivery of Phase 2 & 3 trade training. These services and skills are further utilised to deliver the much-needed support to the wider MOD St Athan customer base to include dependant units: UWAS, DIO Pembrey Sands, RAF Regional Liaison Officer, RAFP, Medical Centre and the Reginal Rehabilitation Unit. The SZ4 is also required to deliver carpentry support to 4SoTT and MOD St Athan dependant units and this has proven to be much more cost effective as opposed to sourcing this service from an outside contractor.

This is a Fixed-term Appointment as a General Technicianin the Support Squadron St Athan. Your responsibilities will be as described in this job advert. The reason why you are appointed for a fixed period is due to funding of the post. This post will therefore begin on your appointment and will end on 31/03/2024. You should be aware that when your Fixed-term Appointment at MOD comes to an end, arrangements will be made in line with the FTA policy.

If you are a permanent MoD civil servant and are found successful for an advertised Fixed-term Appointment (FTA) you should move into the post under a Temporary Transfer (for up to a maximum of 23 months). At the end of the posting you will return to your previous MoD Business area. If this posting is at a higher grade, your promotion will be temporary, and you will return to your substantive grade at the end of the Temporary Transfer. If a Temporary Transfer cannot be agreed between all parties then a transfer on an FTA contract is possible, read the FTA and Change of Work Location in the UK policy for further information.

If you are transferring to MoD from another government department (OGD) you should join the MoD on an inward loan. At the end of the loan you will return to your home (OGD) department.
