Engineering Project Manager£45,000-50,000 Per Annum (Dependent On Experience)

Position will be based in either Lancaster or Knutsford to suit the preference of the successful candidate – remote working will also be considered

The OpportunityWe have an exciting new project to establish novel hybrid microgrid systems in sub-Saharan Africa for the provision of clean, affordable, and secure energy. The systems will integrate solar technology and optimised anaerobic digestion to provide local communities with on-demand renewable electricity and gas. Locally available components will be utilised to ensure the technology is operable and sustainable over the long-term. The project has an ambitious 2-year timeframe and will involve close collaboration with an international consortium of partner organisations in Africa and the UK.

To support delivery of this project and other Stopford technologies (see our website) we are looking for an experienced Engineering Project Manager to join our Technology and Innovation team on a full-time or part-time (minimum 3 days per week) basis. You will join us on an indefinite contract however, the role remains contingent on external funding which, at this time is for 24 months. The appointee will assume overall Project Management responsibility for this project, orchestrating activities across all project partners, whilst also leading on Stopford specific activities. The appointee will also gain involvement in other on-going and emerging projects at Stopford.

About You
  • Highly experienced Engineering Project Manager with a proven track record of delivering international projects (essential)
  • Skilled practitioner of project delivery methods such as PMI/PRINCE2 (essential)
  • Expertise with MS Project, or equivalent project management software, to plan and monitor progress and project resourcing (essential)
  • Excellent communication, management and interpersonal skills (essential)
  • Experience in working in and managing multi-discipline teams (essential)
  • An ability to think strategically and develop long range plans (essential)
  • Passionate about sustainability, with demonstrable experience in the Circular Economy and/or Low Carbon Sectors (essential)
  • Experience with micro-AD and/or solar PV systems (desirable)
  • Familiarity with grant funded project management and reporting requirements (eg InnovateUK, Horizon2020) is desirable
Role Summary

Key responsibilities and activities include:
  • Manage Project development from initiation through to closure.
  • Be accountable for Project results to the Funding bodies, Project Partners and Internal and External Stakeholders
  • Develop Project Execution Plans with respect to Scope of Work, Deliverables, Resources, Budget, Schedule and Risk Profiles.
  • Complete Work Breakdown Structures to determine effort required for each activity.
  • Develop detailed Project Programmes, identifying dependencies, resource requirements and bottlenecks
  • Develop Project Risk Registers and manage the risks accordingly.
  • Clearly communicate expectations to each Project Team member and Stakeholders.
  • Mediate between Stakeholders and Project Team members.
  • Resolve issues and solve problems throughout the Project Life Cycle.
  • Effectively manage the Project Scope of Work by ensuring that any change in scope is identified early, documented and approved using the Funding Body’s Project Change Procedures.
  • Track and report on Project Milestones and progress, providing weekly and monthly reports to Stakeholders.
  • Lead, coach and motivate Project Team members on a proactive basis.
  • Determine how results shall be measured (KPI’s) and complete Post Project Evaluation with Stakeholders to determine how well results were achieved.
  • Develop new tools and Best Practices for Project Management and Execution
  • Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, learning and self-development.
