Energy and Climate Change Consultant – Bristol/Cardiff/Truro

Building on the above, we are looking to expand our team across the South West and Wales. We are growing an office in central Bristol into within easy walking distance of Temple Meads train station and also have well established teams in Cardiff and Truro.

The Opportunity:

The Wardell Armstrong Energy & Climate Change Team is diverse and located across several of our UK offices. We are looking to employ a technically focussed graduate or consultant with approximately one to three years’ experience to assist the energy team with a variety of projects and to assist in the delivery of our expanding climate change related services, with a focus in the south west and Wales. The ideal candidate will be highly numerically and IT literate, comfortable with modelling using a wide variety of software and knowledgeable in the impacts of climate change on the built environment. We are looking for a candidate with relevant professional knowledge, experience and skills, as outlined below. Where gaps exist, on the job training will be provided and we are primarily looking for candidates with a positive and inquisitive mind set, a desire to learn and to grow and develop the service area.

The work load is likely to be diverse and will range from working on the technical elements of planning applications for renewable energy projects through to modelling of complex off-grid energy systems and using Computational Fluid Dynamics for wind flow modelling. We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with SAP/SBEM modelling experience and GIS capability. The workload will largely entail the following:

· building assessments for new and existing housing, commercial and industrial property,

· climate change and sustainability assessments for Environmental Impact Assessments,

· carbon accounting for corporate audits in line with legislation and industry standards,

· carbon management and climate resilience strategies for business.

The candidate will have a good understanding of the drivers and opportunities associated with national and local agenda to reduce carbon emissions and to assist in the development of Wardell Armstrong’s presence in the region.It is anticipated that they wouldalso support the wider Energy and Waste Teams in a variety of technical disciplines including, but not limited to, energy assessments, resource and constraint mapping, waste management strategies, support to waste procurement projects, and production of planning and EIA reports.

The role is ideal for a junior professional who is keen to join a growing team and contribute to a wide range of energy and climate change projects. Enthusiasm for contributing towards business development activities within a thriving business environment would also be a great asset.

You:

As the successful applicant, you will ideally have some experience / competency in the majority of the below attributes, alongside a strong report writing capability:

  • An undergraduate or Masters degree in a Maths, Engineering or related Science subject
  • Knowledge of renewable energy systems
  • Knowledge of energy management in buildings
  • Knowledge of SAP/SBEM assessment
  • GIS / AutoCAD capability
  • Understanding of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
  • Knowledge of basic economics and financial analysis
  • Knowledge of the UK planning system.
  • Strong modelling capability
  • Competent with Excel
  • Strong grounding in IT, ideally with some Linux experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to undertake client facing roles
  • Connections within client organisations and the wider business community
  • Interest and/or capability in associated service lines such as Waste and EIA projects
  • Keen to progress to Chartership with a relevant professional institute

We are ideally looking for someone who is currently working at the Graduate or Junior Consultant level in a similar organisation, or someone who is looking to progress into a role at this level. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
