Job Introduction

The BBC Children’s Content Commissioning team are looking for an Editor Acquisitions to join them for an exciting 12 months.

The Editor Acquisitions is a senior role within the team and will deal with the acquisition, delivery and scheduling of all acquired content. The role requires a high understanding of editorial policy and compliance, together with excellent judgment, in order to deliver and recommend new content for the BBC.

Main Responsibilities

The Editor Acquisitions will:

  • Manage all acquired content stock to ensure content is used effectively and efficiently within its licence and/or restrictions, and to schedule content in conjunction with Channel requirements
  • Represent acquisitions as part of the buying process - following initial offer and overseeing final rights, financial structure/approval, through to involvement in queries during contract confirmation and populating PFC paperwork for PFC/PTC approval
  • Facilitate press releases alongside the Communications Manager
  • Liaise with relevant internal stakeholders to ensure deals are approved
  • Liaise and build relationships internally and externally e.g. business affairs, Publishing, Channel Management, Marketing, broadcasters, distributors, representing the BBC externally when required
  • Work closely with the Senior Planning Managers to plan strategy and policy for monthly spend/budget and to monitor licence usage
  • Facilitate and oversee delivery and edit of Off-the-Shelf materials to Post Production Facility
  • Manage Post Production Budget and Sign off monthly Billings
  • Attend screenings and events as required
  • Attend film festivals and markets to assess content for potential future acquisitions (UK or International)
Are you the right candidate?

We are looking for:

  • Broad knowledge of Editorial & Commercial policy, BBFC policy, Fair Trading, Producers Guidelines, OFCOM and Technical Standards
  • Genuine passion for content, and acquiring new content to complement the BBC’s commissions
  • Strong acquisitions/broadcast experience, with knowledge of programme legal rights and terms
  • Sound knowledge of programming across the specific channels
  • Ability to use IT proficiently, including a range of software packages
  • Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to establish and maintain effective relations with a wide range of internal and external contacts
  • Proven track record of being organised and responsive in fast paced environments
  • Adaptable and resilient, able to cope with the pressure of managing the demands of a high volume of work and meeting tight deadlines
  • Ability to use own initiative with confidence, using judgment to escalate where necessary
  • Experience of contributing towards a programme acquisitions and budgetary strategy for channels
  • Strong understanding of evolving audience requirements and the importance of diversity in our content
  • Experience of managing financial costs and budget planning to ensure budget requirements are met
