The Design Engineer role

As part of the McAlpine Lifting Solutions team you’ll undertake designs related to tower cranes and hoists, in particular: the design of crane bases and ties in structural steel, along with mobile crane planning. This process continues through to the successful delivery of mechanical handling solutions on the project.

The successful candidate will be problem solving lifting solutions, designing them and managing CAD technicians who would be modelling on to the permanent works models to assess adequacy of the solution.

The department may be working for up to 20 projects in a month: all with very short periods for deliverables. Every day brings a new challenge!

Your profile

You will;

  • be degree-level qualified in Civil, structural a related subject.
  • have knowledge of the following software programmes; AutoCAD, Master Series, ROBOT & REVIT and TEKLA would be desirable.
  • The ability to undertake lift plans would be desirable, but not essential. All necessary training will be given, understanding of general and in particular temporary works design would also be preferred
  • A driving license (desirable)
