Civil Engineer - Apprenticeship

This is a full-time apprenticeship opportunity to work with the McAlpine Design Group starting with SRM in September 2021. The role will sit within our Nuclear team based in Knutsford.

The Nuclear team of McAlpine Design Group provide a variety of innovative cost-effective solutions to our clients. We have over 50 years of continuous experience engaged in the safe design of buildings for the UK fleet of commercially operated nuclear power stations. We provide services to the nuclear sector in three key areas: Civil & Structural Design, Structural Analysis and Structural Integrity Assessment

The Civil/Structural Apprentice role

The Civil Engineer role in the nuclear team should be working towards achieving the skills, knowledge and experience to perform a Graduate Design Engineer role. Ideally, we are looking for someone with an interest in the nuclear energy sector and developing relevant civil engineering design skills.

Within this role you will work with the team to work towards the following responsibilities

  • Prepare designs in accordance with McAlpine Design Group Quality Assurance Procedures
  • Provide buildability support on structural design solutions carried out by external consultants.
  • Liaise with CAD technicians.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines, either internally or externally depending on the project and expertise of the individual.
  • Be willing to follow instruction, but confident enough to ask for explanation if required.

Your profile:

For this role we will be looking for a level 6 apprenticeship and we will expect the individual to have the following:

  • have A levels typically at B,B,B or a relevant BTEC qualification Merit or above.
  • You will need to have achieved a B at Maths GCSE or studied Maths at A level.
  • Have a passion for problem solving
  • Be interested in construction, engineering and the latest technology
  • Work experience (desirable)
  • Eligible to work in the UK
  • Driving Licence (desirable)
