We have an exciting new role with the Specialist Teacher Advisory Service for Hearing Impairment (STAS HI). In consultation with our resourced bases for Hearing Impairment we are seeking to recruit a dedicated and creative Deaf Instructor (DI). The DI will work across Hampshire primarily in theschoolswhich have a resourced base for Hearing Impairment.


To fulfil this role ideally you would possess the following skills:
  • Proficiency in British Sign Language either as a first language or at Level 3 or above
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience of working with deaf children.
  • A level 3 award in Education and Training.
  • Experience in delivering lessons in British Sign Language to adults and children.
  • A calm, patient personality, highly organised and flexible
  • Enthusiastic and highly committed with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Have a good team spirit and willingness to work with others.
  • Driving License
The DI role requires supporting children and young people who are deaf with understanding their deaf identity, the deaf curriculum and are aware of the needs of post 16 students moving into college.


You will need to be able to work independently and flexibly delivering signing class to school age children during the school day and after the school day to parents and the wider school community. You will be part of an enthusiastic team of professionals who are striving to constantly improve provision for Deaf pupils and establish this role.


This role will involve travel, for which a mileage allowance is made, and you must be able to fulfil this requirement.
