This is a permanent Consultant Psychiatrist post where you will provide senior medical input into the South Community Treatment Team (CTT) covering the Working Age Adult population in the South Northumberland catchment area. This is a well-established substantive consultant psychiatrist post, with the clinic at the Plessey Centre in Blyth.

You will join a skilled and well-established adult community multi-disciplinary team which provides assessment and treatment for patients experiencing a wide range of mental health problems. The MDT workforce includes non-medical prescribers, specialist nurses, occupational therapists, support workers, psychologists and an IPS (Individual Placement Support) worker.

You will have a lead professional caseload of approximately 60 patients and there are approximately 3 new referrals to the service per week which need medical assessment. The new referrals for assessment are allocated by a rota, based on the GP practices in the region. There are plans to decrease the number of lead professional cases with allocation of more complex patients for consultant reviews.

You will be expected to have 4 clinics per week with 4 patient reviews in each, to provide evidence-based interventions for patients under your care. You will undertake S12 work in relation to Mental Health Act assessments. You will be expected to provide leadership, consultation, advice and guidance within the MDT and to work collaboratively with colleagues in other specialist mental health teams. You will take a lead role alongside other colleagues in service establishment, development, and innovation/ improvement, and will be expected to contribute to the ongoing training and development programme within the team.

You will be actively encouraged and supported to apply for educational supervisor and clinical supervisor roles for core, GP and/or foundation trainees, and to collaborate on research and quality improvement projects in the team.
