Class Teacher with role of Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCO)

Class Teacher with role of Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCO)


Required for the 1st September 2023, the Headteacher and the Governing Body wish to appoint an ambitious teacher who is committed, enthusiastic, imaginative and can demonstrate excellent teaching and learning across the primary phase. The teaching post will initially be for a mixed Year 5 and Year 6 class. SENDCO experience is desirable but not essential as long as the applicant is prepared to complete any necessary training, along with the SENDCO National Award, and that they can show a good understanding SEND needs and how to adjust and adapt planning and provision for pupils.


We are a successful, small, rural school, judged as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2018 and we are looking for someone to join our welcoming school community.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has the SENDCO qualification or a willingness to undertake this
  • Appreciates the challenges of working within a small school environment
  • Has high expectations and is able to inspire and motivate pupils and colleagues, resulting in high quality learning and progress for all
  • Is able to plan exciting and challenging lessons and interventions that meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEN, in a mixed-age class
  • Has good communication skills and is able to work well with colleagues, parents and outside agencies to support teaching and learning for all pupils, including those with SEN
  • Has proven leadership skills across the primary phase, leading staff training, being involved in self-evaluation and development planning
  • Has a good understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and Keeping Children Safe in Education
  • Can continue to develop the school’s drive towards excellence, promoting high expectations and outcomes for all, especially SEND pupils
  • Has excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills
  • An innate ability to demonstrate a caring and nurturing attitude
