Join a team of next generation thinkers.What To ExpectBody Chassis Engineering is one of the larger teams within the JLR PE organisation. The department has complete responsibility for the design and development of all Jaguar and Land Rover BIW, Interior and Exterior, HV battery enclosures and Subframe systems from concept design through to volume production. With an increasing emphasis on Systems Engineering and virtual development techniques, the department utilises advanced AVA CAD and CAE to support the product development process. This role within the Vehicle structures CoC involves working with a wide range of materials and construction techniques, challenging functional and commercial targets and significant liaison with all internal areas of our business.This role is within the Vehicle Structures team as a CAD Engineer, reporting to the Group Leader. Prime responsibility is to support the design, development and optimisation of HV battery structural concepts for future electrified products in the Jaguar Land Rover range.
  • Responsible for the creation of concept designs.
  • Package integration.
  • Bill of Design and Bill of Process maturation.
  • Across functional collaboration to solve complex geometric issues.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities :
  • To create innovative and competitive design solutions for PHEV and BEV battery structures to meet all relevant targets, design rules, standards etc
  • To deliver high quality solutions via CAD tools and actively support resolution of design issues.
  • Where required, support geometry freeze and release process for virtual series stakeholders.
  • Build, maintain and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the evidence-based engineering reviews (EBERS) process
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested.
What You NeedKnowledge, Skills and ExperienceEssential:
  • Mechanical design background / structural engineering
  • Degree in Engineering or comparable qualification
  • Experience in mechanical design of safety critical structural components
  • Experience of component design to deliver performance attributes (durability, stiffness, NVH, weight, cost)
  • Catia V5 or V6 competent / expert practitioner
  • Technical knowledge of battery system and vehicle package
  • Manufacturing techniques including appropriate applications of materials, fabrications and joining.
  • Basic understanding and ability to apply GD&T
  • Ability to both surface and solid model using parametric techniques.
  • Good teamworking and communication skills.
Desirable:
  • Experience in working with HV batteries
  • Ability to work in cross functional teams and influence decisions
  • Experience in working in an Agile project environment
  • Experience of the automotive or manufacturing industry
  • Practitioner in any CAD Software
  • Knowledge of CAE toolsets and their application.
  • Knowledge of HV battery systems.
  • Experience of solving complex technical issues using Six Sigma and/or Global 8D methodologies
  • Sound general technical understanding Knowledge of Jaguar and Land Rover release systems or experience of a relevant technical area will be a benefit.
  • Experience in product development in mechanical design
