Post No. POSN003106 - Assistant Solictor (Contracts and Procurement)

Are you looking for a role at a bold, ambitious council in a thriving city where you will be able to see your work make a real difference?

We have an opportunity for a contracts and procurement lawyer to join our Legal Services Team. From the start, you will be working with colleagues across the organisation to help deliver a range of projects around our city, as the Council continues to implement its vision to make Newport a great place to live and work. Dynamic and self-motivated, you will have an eye for detail whilst always keeping the bigger picture in view. We’re looking for someone with excellent drafting and negotiation skills who can operate in a fast-paced environment. In addition, strong interpersonal skills are a must as you’ll need to build good working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.

This role would suit someone with an inquiring mind who relishes getting to the heart of complex issues and who is creative and tenacious enough to find solutions to challenges that others may not be able to spot.

Above all, you will be keen to learn new skills and committed to your own professional development. The chances are you won’t meet all of the desirable criteria in our person specification for this role; we’re not necessarily expecting that. What we do expect is a genuine aptitude for and interest in developing these skills. In return, we will ensure that you are given the support that you need to do this.

As an employee of the Council, you will benefit from a generous annual leave entitlement (which increases after 5 and 10 years’ service), flexible working and a range of other benefits including discounted leisure membership and the Cycle to Work Scheme. We’re also fully geared up for agile working and we’d be happy to consider applications from candidates who don’t live in the South East Wales area.

If you think you’ve got what we’re looking for and are keen develop your career at a progressive, forward-thinking Council which places its staff at the heart of what it does, we’d like to hear from you.

The closing date for applications is 18th September 2023.

We welcome applications for all our jobs in either Welsh or English. An application submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application submitted in English.

Rydym yn croesawu ceisiadau ar gyfer ein holl swyddi yn y Gymraeg neu’r Saesneg. Ni fydd cais a gyflwynir yn Gymraeg yn cael ei drin yn llai ffafriol na chais a gyflwynir yn Saesneg.

Newport City Council is committed to working towards its workforce being more representative of the population that we serve and particularly welcomes applications from people from the minority ethnic communities represented (or living) in the city. Selection will be made on ability and skills to undertake the role.
