Job DescriptionThis is a fantastic opportunity to join the West Midlands Area Leadership Team. We are recruiting for an Area Flood & Coastal Risk Manager for an 18 month period.We want a passionate and inspirational person to lead our talented and value-driven teams to improve the resilience of our communities, support sustainable development and improve the environment.The role is as exciting as it is challenging, as rewarding as it is diverse. You will be at the heart of our incident response culture across all sectors, from planning to recovery, ensuring our systems are resilient and our people are confident and capable in their incident roles. You will support the delivery of our £multi-million, integrated investment programme, be that delivered through colleagues or external partners. You will apply your experience of partnership working and delivering through others to secure the best possible outcome for our communities and environment.We’re living through complex times. You will play a key role in translating our ambition into outcomes, securing delivery in accordance with our Local Outcome Plan (LOP) and, through doing so, ensure West Midlands delivers what’s right for our communities while also contributing to our organisational aspirations.The teamYou will be a member of the Area Leadership Team, supporting our teams in their development and delivery across the West Midlands. Colleagues are rarely co-located and you will need to be comfortable and effective at leading a dispersed team.You will also work as part of the wider #TeamEA, supporting delivery nationally as well as locally, through the national AFCRM Network and, externally, the English Severn & Wye and Trent RFCCs.Experience/skills RequiredThe following skills, abilities and experience are expected:
  • You’ll have excellent stakeholder (both internal and external) management skills with strong customer management and persuasion skills.
  • You’ll be experienced in managing programmes of work to deliver excellent value for money, timely delivery and provide assurance of outcomes to meet the requirements of local people, government or other funders.
  • You will have a clear commitment to your team and have experience in helping individuals to develop to achieve their best and be confident, not just competent, in their roles.
  • Effective relationships are key to delivery and you will be experienced and skilled in working across organisations and communities, public and private, large and small, at all levels.
  • As a leader within the West Midlands, you will be an inclusive, confident and successful communicator, often acting as the gateway to the organisation for our customers and potential partners.
