We’re looking for an Electrical and Instrumentation Technician APPRENTICE , someone who is self-driven and looking to take their first steps to a career in production of industrial gases. This is an excellent opportunity to develop skills within a high performing operating team.

Location: LNG Importation Terminal, Gate 1, Isle of Grain, Rochester, Kent, ME3 0AJ

Your Challenge …
You’ll be responsible for planning and doing routine and non-routine maintenance at Air Products’ site in Didcot and our satellite plants.

About You…

No prior experience is required, but you will need to bring commitment, passion, attention to detail, a strong desire to learn and strong sense for safety. If you have formal vocational qualifications (electrical distribution, equipment protection and controls) and can read electrical control drawings, it is a big plus. No 2 days are the same within this fast-paced operating environment. Team working and problem solving will be skills you rely on to succeed.

In this apprenticeship, you will learn to fulfil the role below….
  • Be given guidance and support
  • Comply with safety policies and practices
  • Work alongside Operations Service Centre (OSC) operators
  • Assist with major on-site plant start/stops as requested from OSC
  • Provide on-site troubleshooting and operational tasks
  • Assist major on-site plant start/stops
  • Provide on-site assistance to bulk loading, resolution of analysis issues etc.
  • Complete plant logbooks and OSC communications
  • Assist the plant management in development of work instructions
  • Liaise and communicate with customers when required
  • Work with the Plant Management team & Maintenance Support Manager (MSM) to ensure relevant & optimal planned maintenance programmes
  • Work with technical staff and Plant Management to solve plant and equipment problems as they arise in the most effective way
  • Carry out routine maintenance activities & rectification of defects in a timely manner
  • Support corrective maintenance work associated with plant and equipment failures (breakdowns)
  • Work with SAP & GMM (Global Materials Management), ensure correct spare parts inventory management
  • Support plant management to develop & comply with site maintenance budget, and ensure works are carried out in a cost effective manner
  • Provide local technical support on the site, including satellites/out-stations where appropriate for the electrical (primary) and instrument (secondary) disciplines and undertake subsequent training and development, for trouble-shooting and for the completion of small projects on site.
  • Identify and be actively involved in development and execution of maintenance related productivity ideas
Working pattern
Initially Monday – Friday 09:00AM – 17:00PM with ½ hour lunch break. Varied shifts may be required in line with the needs of the business.

Weekly Wage: £ Hourly Rate NMW for age Year 1, and Real Living Wage Year 2 and 3.

Hours per week: 39 Working pattern: Mon-Fri, 9-5 with ½ lunch

Pay Frequency: Time management skills Assisted Travel (will the employer be assisting this cost): Accommodation paid; travel home for weekends and holidays will be covered for Year 1 only. Year 1 training is based on site in Hull at HETA.
