More about the role
The Service Engineer is part of our Customer Engineering team, which is part of our core business - Industrial Gases Operations. The organisation provides maintenance services to customers and production facilities in the UK and Ireland.
Service Engineers deal with troubleshooting, repairs, preventive maintenance, installation and some design of control and instrumentation systems, and they support installation and commissioning activities for some customer projects.
As the Service Enginee r, you will work in Essex and neighbouring counties and sometimes even further north and north-west. You will be part of a Call Out Rota in support of the Customer Engineering Customers and will be able to respond to Emergency Call outs 24/7.
LOCATION: Essex, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire (East of England)
EDUCATION: HNC or NVQ equivalent in Electrical / Electronic Engineering
EXPERIENCE and SKILLS: working experience in a field role, experience with the customer-facing environment, ability to work independently, flexibility, ability to work under pressure
CONTRACT: permanent
SALARY: competitive salary + annual bonus + benefits
As the Service Engineer, you will also
- Ensure safe operation and legal compliance of the sites
- Ensure all legal inspections are carried out before due dates
- Respond to unplanned maintenance in a timely manner
- Maintain documentation both written and electronic
- Provide support to customers and production sites with the following equipment - process plant instrumentation (e.g. pressure, temperature, flow, level, measurement, gas detection), shutdown systems, controls systems such as PLC, analysers, control and switching valves, pneumatic control systems, instrumentation in ATEX zone areas (including protection methods for EExd and EEXia systems)
- HNC or NVQ equivalent in Electrical / Electronic Engineering
- Proven experience in a customer facing role
- Proven experience working in a service / installation field role
- Strong written communication skills
- Ability to work remotely and travel frequently
- Self-motivated independent worker
- Ability to problem solve, troubleshoot under pressure
- Good IT skills (knowledge of SAP is beneficial but not necessary)
- Qualified to work on field instrumentation in flammable atmospheres (COMPEX Approved)
- Qualified to carry out electrical inspection and test on electrical systems
- Working knowledge of PLC controlled systems, including fault finding and remote integration
- Experience on working on Pressurised Systems in compliance with PSSR 2000 legislation
