The Environmental Control team is seeking to appoint to the animal warden/pest control section of the team. The post is career graded 5 - 6 - 7 and we are looking to appoint at grade 5 or 6, although career progression will be available.
This is an opportunity to join our team providing a range of dog control enforcement across the East Riding, predominantly covering the eastern half of the County, including Beverley, Bridlington, Driffield and Withernsea. However, the successful candidate will be expected to complete training and take part in pest control work as and when required.
The role will be primarily working from home, but also using one of the main offices, whichever is the most appropriate.
We are looking for someone with good communication skills to deal with people directly, and to provide dog-related services in a range of environments. They must have the ability to work both with minimal supervision and as part of a team towards shared goals.
The role includes enforcing dog control legislation, handling stray dogs, investigating dog attack cases and dog related nuisance cases, working within the requirements of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.
You will need to be computer literate and capable of keeping accurate records.
You will be expected to take part in the out of hours rota for the collection of stray dogs on Bank Holidays, for which an allowance will be paid. Working outside of normal working hours will be necessary on occasion, for which an overtime allowance is paid.
A small part of this role includes the collecting of water samples from homes that use private water supplies, for which training will be given.
You will need to be able to drive a fleet vehicle, which you will need to be able to park safely and securely at your home. A check will be made to ensure the candidate holds a full driving licence. The appointed candidate must live within the East Riding or Hull local authority boundaries.
The job requires a level of physical ability to be able to work in dusty/dirty environments (with PPE), at heights (with use of a ladder), in confined spaces, close to water and to handle dogs.
For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Stuart Allen 01482 396360 or David Howliston 01482 396211.
